**Happy New Slimming World Year**

TakeItEazy - do you mind me asking why you carry on eating that way if you're a target member? I thought Slimming World was about teaching healthy habits and making a lifelong change, so would you say the plan has been successful?
I promise this isn't a loaded question, and I know it sounds judgemental - it's not supposed to but I couldn't find a way to phrase it that made it sound better.
I can answer that to some extent. I'm a target member who is approximately 10 odd pounds above my target weight.
First of all, I set my target too low and had to readjust it so if it had been at my current target weight from the beginning then I would have reached it within a year of joining. As it was, it took me a lot longer!
When you get to target, its hard to make the mental shift from "member wanting to lose" to "member wanting to maintain"
My consultant always talks about the danger of having too many syns as a target member and suggested to me that I had extra Healthy A and B options.
I personally found the support at group for me diminished once I was a target member. Rightly, the consultant didn't have much to say to me because, I'd go, I'd weigh and I'd be target + 1 or spot on target. I wasn't a member who had been good all week and had put on 3 pounds, so I was bottom of the list for support and rightly so. I kept going to group because I knew I still needed that weekly weigh in at the scales to keep me in check.
I have been outside of my target range since Christmas 2009 which means that I have been attending group since then and paying each week (target members attend for free if they are at target or within target range (3 pounds either way))
SW is ingrained in me but I still make bad choices and have bad days. I don't think you can banish the food demons that existed before you joined sw - I don't think they ever go away and thus you can be prone those days where you just think "sod it!").
I'll be sat at work thinking, oh I really fancy pizza tonight but when it actually comes to buying said pizza, i look at the calorific content and imagine the syn value , think of those members at my class who stick to the plan 110% and I'll end up leaving the pizza on the shelf!
I'm being very long winded for which I apologise. We can all have the best intentions with SW but life has a nasty habit of throwing surprises at us which can scupper our best laid plans.
SW does work but it takes effort and your mind has to be in the right place.
I have made that mental shift from being very relaxed about sw to being very determined to get back to target and stay there and get there asap.
I think that once a member has done sw then they will always make healthy choices subconsciously but sometimes you just got to have a mad day to remind yourself that you are still human.
Finally for me personally, if you look at my menu on the previous page, up until lunchtime, I had been good - Hi fi bar and 28g cereal for breakfast and chopped up clementines to snack on through the morning.
Bad morning in the office = grumpy flat eric - im tired anyway and what better than to enjoy the chilli and chips in the pub with a J20. rather than the jacket spud and cheese and salad option and a cup of tea. Now I could have left it at that - ensured I stuck to superfree for the rest of the day but I didn't - why not ? well if I'm having a bad day, I'll be thinking oh - shouldn't have eaten that, lets right off today and subconsciously think, eat what I want today and as much of it as possible (thats bad) because tomorrow (and thereafter) I'll be back on plan and i won't be able to enjoy those naughty things ? Except, the following day, something else will happen which throws a spanner in the works and the whole process repeats again and typically for the whole week ! meaning a (not unexpected) shock on the scales at weigh in.
In summary, sw does work but its not easy, firstly, your mind has to be in the right place and secondly you have to be prepared for the extra expenditure in your grocery shopping. It takes motivation effort and commitment and when you add life into the mix, its hard to balance it all, all of the time,

Morning all, well my cold is starting to feel better but now my tummy is hurty!! Not that thats unusual for me but it'd be nice to just feel normal for a day!! Not sure what i'll have for brekkie, tummy doesn't feel up to it yet! Lunch will be more of my HM houmous with crudites and maybe some sw chips or a jacket potato. Tea is beef brisket done in the slow cooker with loads of veggies. Will probs have to do roasties with it, i prefer mash but OH isn't so keen and we've had mash the last 2 nights so another one might be pushing it!0

Good morning gorgeous people! :j
Ok so now I am back on track, and raring to go! got leek and tattie soup cooking on the stove, having vegetable stir fry tonight, going to snack on fruit as much as possible and try and cook from scratch a bit more!
Also want to try and come pot in here more often.
Not doing much this weekend, just going to play with the boys, sort my bedroom out, tidy up, and meal plan for the week x0 -
Not sure if I want to know the answer to this but how many syns did I waste on the 4 chocolate digestives that found their way into my mouth last night?
The only posative I am taking from the event is that it was only 4 and not the whole packet :rotfl:0 -
Morning everyone.
I peeked on the scales this morning (have no clue why!) and it said 5lb off from 2 days ago, either this is a fluke or I had a massive amount of water retention! I have been drinking green tea the past 2 days so that may be getting rid of any water. However the official reading will be next Thursday so I won't get too excited just yet!
Today (Green)
B - Frittata (F) spicy red sauce (1)
L - Lentil soup (F)
D - Macaroni & cheese (A+A+3) steamed broccoli (F)
snx - CousCous salad (F) yoghurt (2)
I am going to do veggie green days this week as I ate far too much meat on holidays so feel like I need a type of detox re the meat."People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0 -
Another good day yesterday, feeling very much in control which is good for me !
My SW leader rang me this morning just to check everything was ok and to see if I had any questions. Never had that before on any other 'plan' .... I think it just goes to show
Eating today:
B - 28g bitesize shredded wheat (HEB), 0% greek yoghurt, grapes & 1 tsp honey (1)
L - Bacon, egg (frylight), baked beans, mushrooms, tinned tomatoes, quorn sausages
D - Beef lasagne (1.5), brocolli, cauli, carrots & peas. Sugar Free jelly (1), ambrosia low fat custard 100g (4.5), raspberries & 2 tbsp squirty cream (0.5) = trifle (yummmmmm !)
Snacks - satsuma & pear
Skimmed milk (HEA)

Thank you for your very honest assessment Flat Eric.
Before I started on SW I spent a long time weaning myself off the habit of treating myself to a glass (or more) of wine every day. It had just crept in as part of my lifestyle but was very difficult to change. I suppose it was my way of signalling work is over, now I'm having some 'me' time. Others seem to sit of an evening and eat crisps or take-aways or chocolate. The parallels of making wise choices are remarkable. It's not knowing what to do, it's making sure you do it that's so hard. I must say however that I find it so much it is easier to buy syn-free drinks when I'm out than food. I eat out quite often and have been amazed at the dried up offerings that many places serve as jackets and the tasteless bits of tomato and iceberg that are considered a side salad.
Hope everyone's having a good Saturday.:)0 -
Hello everyone,
I have the lurgy (cough, snot etc) and have been feeling rotten. Unfortunately went majorly off plan yesterday.
School canteen, nice baked potatoes sitting there, baked beans (which I love), grated cheese and the nice dinner ladies will do me a half portion of cheese. I line up with my tray convinced I am getting a jp and beans - get back to the staffroom with a portion of chips and a mahoosive portion of pizza dripping with cheese.
How did that happen??
I knew it was a bad idea, and then I ate it all.
I also went out with friends on Monday eve, had lovely food and planned to be on track the rest of the week to minimise the damage.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Back on track so far today (green), I've had 2x quorn sausages, onions, 2x WM bread (small slices) so only one HEB gone.
When I am feeling down about being on SW what works for me is trying new recipes so I am going to try to do a SW tabbouleh for lunch (need to use lots of cucumber and parsley) and have a very spicy noodle dish for dinner. I might try to adapt this pudding too:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/feb/05/baked-upside-down-cheesecake-recipe
I am thinking sweetener, quark and fromage frais might do it? I've got lots of frozen raspberries or gooseberries for the fruit layer, and some low-fat digestives - but I think I saw somewhere that they are the same syns as the full-fat ones?
Sorry to go on, thinking as I type, but feel better now!
Hugs to all the poorlies and welcome to the newbies.

Thanks for answering this Flat Eric, I couldn't have put it better myself.
Wootball, no offence taken [I know how to take you now :rotfl:] I don't normally eat this way but have been poorly for a couple of weeks annd needed comfort food. Also had to rely on hubby chosing the food. When feeling well I do make healthy choices and stick to sw during the week. I do find it hard to maintain and am well below target [6.5lb] so could do with gaining a bit. I have tried the extra HE route but can't always fit them in.
I haven't posted my food diary this week as its full of rubbish but will be back on the wagon next week.
Also we do all have off days [Birthdays ringing any bells wootball] but as long as we get back on the wagon its ok.
Thanks for your comments though. Its not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T
