1lb loss lastnight, must admit to being a little dissapointed though as thought I had been quite good

Have come across this when searching for chickpea recipies
    Slimming world houmous
    1 can chick peas
    2-4 garlic cloves
small pot fat free fromage frais
    1 small onion
    small pince of chilli powder
    blend it together
and enjoy with veg- carrot sticks or celery its yummy

    Syn free on green day

Is this free on ee days also? was thinking about taking this to work for lunch tomorrow with a large salad and maybe having 3/4salad and 1/4 houmous to see if can get things moving in better direction, any thoughts?
Yup free on EE too! (I add a teaspoon of sesame oil, worth it for the "proper" taste and the sake of 2 syns for the whole thing! :D

Thanks for the water reminder ... I knew I wanted something but hadn't worked out what!

Two things from a magazine (?Beautiful Homes?) I was reading today; it had a section at the back with traditional Italian recipes in it.

First thing (and I had long suspected this but convinced myself I had mis-remembered the original recipe) REAL CARBONARA DOES NOT HAVE CREAM!!!!! So there. I'd always mentally thought of it as "breakfast pasta" because it is bacon and eggs (and parmesan). So it becomes a SW recipe without any faffing about with fatfree white stuff! If anyone wants I'll copy out the recipe tomorrow, OR even better I will find my old ElizabethDavid cookery book and copy the real thing from there!

Second thing: In the same part of the mag was a recipe for a squash casserole. I am making it now, in the interests of you lot. It did include olive oil; I have used a mix of water and mushroom ketchup at that stage (to gently cook the garlic)

I'll put it into a separate post or this will be an unbearable length. Meanwhile:

Lots of people have fallen off and I think we need to stop for a couple of hours so they can gather themselves and scramble back on! now Dizzy's feeling a little better we shall have a more steady wagon, I think!

Well done to the losers, hugs for the STS and gainers. Let's get back on the wagon please everyone!!

I've had a wonderful dinner and was very impressed with it.

    EE day

    Lunch
    Jacket potato
    Ham
    Carrots
    Butter (2 syns)

    Dinner
Boulangere potatoes (like dauphinoise but healthy!)
Mustard and cheese stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon
    Carrots
    Broccoli
    Mushrooms

I've counted 7 syns for dinner as I had streaky bacon but used the cheddar as a HEA.

So that's 9 syns and HEA used. Might have a weetabix oatybar for dessert and HEB.

Recipe for dinner as below - serves 4

    Boulangere Potatoes
    Potatoes sliced
    Onion
    Rosemary
    175ml veg stock
    125ml milk (2.5 syns)

Layer it all, pour over the stock and milk and oven cook at 200c for 1hr 15mins.

Mustard cheese stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon
125g Low fat mozzarella (12 syns)
    50g Cheddar (12 syns)
1 tbsp wholegrain mustard (1.5 syns)

Mix it all up, stuff it in 4 chicken breasts and wrap in bacon and cook in the oven for 30 mins.

So that's 7 syns per portion and even less if you use a HEA for the cheese.

Can someone please take a look at my ideas for food tomorrow and tell me if it's ok?

Breakfast - grilled bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans
Lunch - Wholemeal roll with ham and tomato, an apple and mullerlight
Dinner - chicken pie (I made this tonight and don't want to waste it) it has chicken, onion, mushrooms, basil in with, two spoons of flour and creme fraiche for the sauce and puff pastry on top
Drinks - water and sugar free squash
They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

I keep reading people saying they have 'only' lost a pound - next time you are in the supermarket pick up a 1lb pack of lard - turn it round in your hands and look at it properly. Its pure fat - nothing added but it sure is heavy and quite large. If you have lost 5lbs then pick up 5 of them and see just how much bulk there is in there. Imagine them wrapped round your waist and hips. 1lb is good - never let it be an 'only' - its not just an 'only' its a huge lump of lard that no longer sits on your more than ample butt!!
Well said, Magnolia, sometimes one has to be harsh to be kind (whilst appreciating the struggles that everyone has); I do often say to myself "it's my hand that picks it up and it's my mouth it goes into!" It's the only way to do it - take control of yourself!

As for the "only a pound" - see my avatar there <<<<< that is actuall HALF A POUND of fat and skin that I removed from a chicken and weighed, then photographed. To get the scale, it was a very big overflowing handful! So even half a pound is a good big handful of fat GONE!

Stuffing empty calories such as biscuits wont help either - thats what got you here. You need to re think your priorities here and decide just what you do want. Its no good looking for someone to blame. Your other half being away is just another excuse. Loose the 'its not my fault' mentality and start to take control of yourself.

Now just give yourself a good talking to and take control of what goes in your mouth - no one else is to blame - they didn't put it there!

Ok - lecture over for tonight - Oh one more thing - step away from the scales!!! Put them in the garage until weigh day and stop tormenting yourself ;)
This struck a chord with me, thanks Mags. I read each day but don't post often as I am so busy, but you are all an inspiration!
I think I am here for the long haul, averaging 1-2lbs loss a week at the moment, but it will lead to the loss I want eventually. I made an excel spreadsheet (with a weigh in only once a week:D) and I would hit target in May if I kept going as I am. That seems pretty good to me. I am aiming to make this a long term change as I certainly don't want it all going back on again - baby weight becomes a rubbish excuse when your youngest is three.....

Butternut squash casserole (as I remember it!)

    3 - 4 cloves of garlic sliced
    splash of mushroom ketchup/worcestershire sauce/water
average butternut squash deseeded and cubed
    250ml passata
    10 black olives dried
half a teaspoon of dried thyme or 1.5 teaspoons of fresh thyme
a little more water as needed
    salt, black pepper

soften the garlic, either in the worcs sauce/water or syn some olive oil
add passata, bring to a simmering point
add the cubed squash, thyme and olives and a little more water if needed (not much, you can add more if it thickens too much too soon)

bring back to simmer, almost cover, and keep simmering slowly until the squash has softened nicely. Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste. reheats well according to magazine.

Mine's just pinged (did it in the m'wave) but I shan't be tasting it til tomorrow. Oh and I added some chilli; that wasnt in the mag :D

PS serves 6 according to the mag, so the olives per portion would only be half a syn!

  • Liz33y: that looks fine for your meals but don't forget to syn the pastry on the chicken pie as well as the relevant ingredients!

  • :o I must admit that I caved and got chips from the chippy :o. I had some eggs on toast first but I'm so ravenous with this cold that it didn't touch the sides!

Chips are 17.5syns so waaaaay better than the Dominos large pizza/garlic bread/wedges/dips I ordered online, but then deleted order before payment!! :rotfl:

I've only had 3.5syns today, so all in all I'm 6syns over my daily limit so I'll just have 9 tomorrow.

  • WI last night and maintained. WI last week was morning and yesterday was evening and had had dinner so hoping to reap rewards next week.
Stayed to group to be re-motivated or was in danger of serious over-eating sulk. Came home and had fibre plus bar instead and talked myself into seeing it as a challenge. Going back to green next week so can have huge dinners and 2 HEB's (v excited about this bit). Have also vowed to be super good and have no 'justs' - you know the ones, just that bit of broken biscuit, just one of the kids sweeties, just a quick dip in the cake mixture, just............

It's an even worse excuse when your youngest is 10 and the eldest is about to turn 19!!! Have I really been battling this weight for almost 20 years?

I've decided that this is the year I will conquer my weight, get fitter, and feel better about myself once and for all. If I were to lose an average of 1lb a week this year I'd still be 3.5 stones lighter by Christmas... that would have me in well within my healthy BMI range. I've not been there since I got married all those years ago. This has to be easily do-able, if I just stick to the wagon, and move about a bit more. Bring on the warmer weather and long bike rides!:T
