Welcome Susie, I go to classes as that us what helps me but there are plenty of others on this thread who are online members. I just do extra easy as I find that the simplest to follow as it was the plan explained to me at class. You can choose whether to do red, green or extra easy and it is fine to do a different plan each day if that us what you want to do but to start it may be best to stick to one until you are used to it. Consultants post on page one of this thread has a good explanation of extra easy.

    Hi!

I'm very interested in joining Slimming World. I'm 18 and live with my family - all my family are a bit on the 'big' side and could do with loosing some weight. They try, but then they get fed up and don't know the right choices to make, and also portion size is a big issue - we all tend to eat quite large portions. I used to be quite slim but have put on a bit of weight recently and want to get back to the weight where I feel comfortable again.

All my family seem quite against the idea of going to classes for a slimming group and say that they might think about joining it online but never get around to do it. To encourage them, I want to start giving them some sample menus and cooking for them! I want to cook them a meal, preferably entirely free (not sure if any meal can be entirely free? Ive ben reading up on SW but still trying to get my head around it) and then once theyve eaten them, I want to explain to them that that was healthy meal that still tasted good. So does anybody have any ideas please? And also any ideas on how to encourage them to perhaps join online? Ive just ordered one of the discs of ebay as it was only £2 for some tips.

    Thankyou :)

Hi there, and welcome to the gang! Maybe you could tell us a little about the sorts of meals your family would enjoy, and we can suggest recipes?

And just to update for my day so far:

    Cereal bar (b)
    Dyno soup (lots of it!)
cheese & broc pasta & sauce, with added cheese (a) and bacon (b)

I have LOVED my day's eating so far! Yet again adding bacon made a meal seem really naughty and extra tasty for me :T

Now... do I save my syns up (I am thinking of having a danish pastry with my coffee tomorrow after my exam) or do I introduce myself to that lovely cream cheese that is in the fridge? Decisions decisions! Think the pastry tomorrow might win ;)

ooh that sounds good how did you do it??

BettyB, sorry i didn't reply quicker, i only get on for a few minutes at lunchtime. I just got some normal couscous, added boiling water and then when it was ready i added onion powder, garlic salt, and chilli and then coated the chicken in the normal way with egg then the couscous. Baked it for 20 minutes and voila... you could add any hrbs/spices to taste really, or even use flavoured couscous. Do you think it might be classed as a misuse of food though???

Well done on your loss jill36 :T

Hi B44, have you had a look at the 7 day plan online (http://www.slimmingworld.com/healthy-eating/non-vegetarian-menu.aspx) there are some lovely recipes on there - cottage pie or chicken tikka masala might be things your family eat already but you can SW-ify them with these recipes.

Thankyou :) Curries are a favourite , we eat a lot of chicken also things like stir frys and rice dishes everybody enjoys. And we all like fish as well but dont eat an awful lot of it. I'd also like to encourage them to eat Quorn, I eat a lot of it myself as I enjoy it but nobody else seems keen lol

    Thanks for the reply

    amazing discovery

i was earlier moaning about not liking fish unless it was breaded - well i have founda great compromise.

in lidl they sell frozen yellowfin sole filliets with a light lemon flavour dusting. with either parsley or black pepper.
they are only 4.5 syns on extra easy according to the calculator.
    also very cheap.

Hi everyone, thanks to the person who told me where to post :), I posted on an old thread earlier :(

How do I keep finding this thread, or do I have to search for it everytime? I am new to this site so I'm a bit lost...

I am wanting to join up with slimming world online, is anyone else on here just an online member, or is everyone joined up with classes? I just wondered if online is any good? I have never done slimming world before so I have absolutely no idea on how it works, I have read the info on the site and I am so confused with the red/green days extra easy and food optimising. Do you combine all ways, or have certain days doing certain diets, I am so baffled :(

Any help is appreciated, and I look forward to sitting and reading more on the thread and getting to know everyone xxx
Susie, I think more than half of us regulars are with "real" classes, a handful are definitely Online Members (Mrs Mikawber will be along soon), and another handful are doing without either and going it alone except for help on here! A class, at least one visit, is the recommended way as you get all the books and a rundown of how it works; and the Extra Easy plan will be explained to you. I think they recommend you get your head/mouth round EE before you start faffing about with Red/Green; anyway EE is just like regular healthy eating and is quite simple.

To find the thread again look at the top of your screen and there should be a heading of "Bookmarks" or "Favourites". Whilst you are on the thread, click on that word and you will get an option to save or "bookmark" the site. Next time you want to find us click onto the Bookmarks or Favourites and you'll get a dropdown and there will be this thread. THEN in the green line near the top of the thread is some white writing saying "Go to last read"; click on that and it takes you to where you left off :D
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!
