Competitions Discussion Thread Part 13

i just know that I don't like dupes, I don't like confusion, and with this happening now, am starting to prefer to have everything on one board, with the stickies here too.
im at the point, where i said last week, lets just post all the dailies, all the weeklies and all the monthlies that have a new prize or a new question on main with that days/weeks or months end date
the problem with having them done both ways is that people end up duping because there is often no mention on a post on main that it is in regs, that a thread has been updated in regs and that thread is what is linked to in t he appropriate sticky. for SOME comps it doesnt matter as you can dupe or it tells you youve already entered, for others it does
i edited my post above......
its time everything posted the same way. so if the hello comp is to be posted on main then all comps with anew prize, answer or daily.weekly/monthly end date need posted individually on main too  not just whichever comps people want to post on main and the rest can be left as ongoing because theyre not as interesting to so many people
for so long its been fine to dupe threads updated with new details in regs as new posts on main. thats what started all the discussion that we are all now sick to death of:rotfl:
and as for things getting more thanks on main....as so few people are aware that the regular board exists, and as so many people want to pretend it doesnt exist..then yes more people are going to be on main...why should they go anywhere else when all there are more than enough to enter on main and the most exciting/best ones form regulars will be duped by someone anyway?0 -
I don't see why we need to contrive to make it a regular. During all the discussion previously I thought the main reason that there was a move towards posting everything in one thread rather than just being posted as separate competitions was that it would save people time posting them. However if someone is going to be posting it as a redirected competition in a new thread each week then surely we may as well just have them posted normally as a separate competition each week and forget the ongoing thread in regulars. This would save all the unnecessary merging and duplicate postings.
I thought it was considered regular because you could enter it daily, but it had an end date of 14/02 so should have been on the main board and linked in the daily sticky thread. Other people are considering it an ongoing weekly as well as a daily, because Hello run a competition every week, in the same way most sites do, so there is confusion.0 -
Let's just wait for Andrea to get back to us
and leave threads in the boards they are in for now
the threads posted on mains linking to an ongoing comp in regs will probably be few and far between and only used for popular comps anywayI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. also going to say...reusing an old url is a bit different to the comp constantly and forever more using the same url.
the dday break comps you mention, doesnt the comp page go to sorry this page is not available or cant be found or this comp is closed or such like following the end date of that comp? it doesnt instantly change the prize and it doesnt update bang on the same day every single time?0 -

I thought it was so that the links in the stickies worked without having to be continually updated by pcl, Gilla and PPD who already do enough work maintaining the stickies without having to change the link every day/week/month?
And that's my only comment....I'm only making it to answer a question/comment as no one else has. I'm not joining in any arguements any more it's not worth the stress

im so confused.
Where in this would the music news competitions fit. They all lead to the same url entry page.0 -
Are the postal/text comps worth doing? I have never really done them and wonder if its worth the cost (i.e. stamps, texts etc) - do you get alot of wins from them? thanks x0
