It's worth people who comp by closing date noting that you will miss out any comp that isn't posted with the end date in the usual format:
i.e. E: dd/mm xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
where there is a space between E: and the rest of it, and where there are always 2 digits for the day and month (e.g. E: 01/03 will get sorted into a different order than E:01/03 or E: 1/03)
Personally I tend not to sort by closing date at the moment as I'm able to generally keep up with the comps, but I usually post on the comps to ask the OP to change the format to help those people who can't spend as much time comping and who do it by closing date.
It turns out that some people take this as a criticism and not as as it is intended (trying to be helpful), so I won't be doing this any more.
So if you do comp by closing date, make sure you double check you've got all the comps for that date !Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100 -

I've noticed a few comments recently, such as 'Oh here come the forum police' when you post to try and help the OP do the comp in the correct format. Don't these people realise that if it wasn't for people doing that the boards would be in a shambles?Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

There used to be a sticky thread specifying how the End Date should be formatted.
Do people think that No End Date/Wrong format problems have increased since that was merged into the one PLEASE READ sticky?
There will always be people who don't like being told the correct way to do things and probably more so when the message is just from another forum user. It may be more effective if the BG's were to take the lead in this. I know they are busy and their time is not unlimited but Glad has mentioned in the past that she does scan the board and amend problems when she sees them but perhaps this would take less time if people could be persuaded to do it right in the first place.0 -
i dont think they have increased, i have always had to go skip past all the E: 11/02 to the start fo the 12/02 to find the wrong E:11/2 for example.
there are a few people on here who take great delight in calling you the forum police etc when you try to be helpful....one yelled at me once because i had missed the link in the op (was in black and not underlined) so i posted it thinking op had forgotten
iirc i told her to watch for being the forum police herself and consider others are tyring to be helpful before she lays in rofl
liz dont stop being helpful by posting, MANY people wont take it as critisism and will appreciate the pointer....the few who cant see that someone is trying to be helpful should not be allowed to spoil it for all
sometimes the way things are worded can be taken wrongly...a "change the end date the correct format" is not as fluffy as a "hi thanks for posting, would you mind changing the end date so its in the correct formate eg. as this helps with search and sorting of threads. thanks" type thing....ive seen both used, as well as a more fluffy bunnies and cuddles approach lol.
i was shocked to see a post recently where the op had yelled by using caps that if she made a mistake dont attack  but pm her instead and she would change the error.......rather shocked me as although some people are more blunt in their way of asking its hardly attacking and its the people who come along and accuse of being the forum police who are doing the attacking. unless of course ive missed any requests to change things that are rude and nasty and cannot possibly be just a result of being in a hurry and not padding the request out with fluffy bunnies
it would indeed be better if people just posted properly in t he first place, BUT there are always going to be newbies who dont know to, others who accidentally miss something out and dont realise or typing errors or and so on. there is never going to be a case were every one who posts a comp is going to get it right all the time same as there is never going to be a day where there are no merge requests sent lol
umm im rambling again0 -
