*ahem*
I've broken the £70,000 barrier! Whoop! I saved £979 in August so my new total is £70,127!
That means that I've saved nearly £8,000 so far in 2013. Getting to my target of £13,000 in 2013 is going to be a huge challenge, but hopefully I can do it.

My savings have been horrible this calendar year - very disappointing.
I bought a car back in February which knocked me back quite a little bit. I had a few K to pay over the following few months. I had that paid by about May but since then have kept missing targets and really have made limited progress.
Where the fook does the money go? Seems that every month has a new problem that bleeds money!!!
Anyway, I aim to save a minimum of 5k over the next 6 months.0 -
I save 300$ per month from my salary, which i would like to invest in Real estate.0

Joining in if thats ok! Ive used the forum before but not for a while. Needed some support with my new target!
My best friend is getting married in May 2015 in Mexico. So I have about 18 months to save £6k for me & my family (husband & 2 children) to go. About £350ish a month.
Help meIt means so much for me to go because she has said if I can't she'll cancel the wedding & get married over here but I know its not what she wants at all.
Im a childminder so my wage isnt huge, my husband has an ok job but we have a little bit of debt on credit cards (£2k maybe), 2 x overdrafts which we live in (£2.5k) and hubby has a guitar he's paying for still too. We are in a new house we have a mortgage on and a lot needs to be done but I think we might have to knock it on the head. We also have friends & family who live away, we take it in turns to visit my family in newcastle from leeds every other month (petrol & hotel gets quite pricey), as well as sister in Leicester, friends in Chester, Grandparents in ill health in London that we need to keep visiting as a priority.
So just looking for some support and places to start really. Im determined to do this! But we do have some spending habits we need to kickSavings target! £6000 by May 2015

OK, end of September update from me! Sorry it's late.
I managed to save £1,404 in September, which I'm delighted with.So my new total is £71,531! I'm just about on track. I've saved £9,331 so far this year - an average of £1,036 per month.
I'll be booking a holiday soon, which will mean that I might not quite hit my target, but ya gotta live too!
I'm doing well, considering that I split with my OH recently and am now paying twice what I was on bills. So if I get anywhere near £75,000 by the end of the year I'll be well chuffed.

Hello and welcome to the thread!
Do you mind if I play devil's advocate for a moment?
Forgive me for saying this, but your friend is being very selfish expecting you to spend £6,000 to attend her wedding. Saying that if you can't go, she'll cancel and have it here - well, that's simple emotional blackmail - and doesn't the groom get a say??
It's their choice where to have their wedding, it's your choice whether you can afford to attend. If I were getting married abroad, I wouldn't expect anyone to come except immediate family - and I'd be paying their travel costs! If any of my friends/relatives expected me to fork out £6,000 to attend their wedding, they'd be very disappointed!!!
If you have £4,500 of debt, would you resent saving up £6,000 and blowing the whole lot on attending this wedding? Imagine what you could do with that money. Pay off your debts (more money in your pocket every month, plus peace of mind), create a nest egg for your family, maybe even a holiday of your own.
Also, I've been to weddings abroad before (only in Europe, so they were relatively cheap) - you think that it'll be a holiday for you too, but invariably half the trip is taken up with wedding-related stuff, so it's not that relaxing at all. Destination weddings have got WAY out of hand imho.
Now, feel free to tell me to mind my own business if you likeand I hope that I haven't offended you.

lol no absolutely not at all, when Ive spoke to other people it's been mostly met with the same reaction and I do understand it. She didnt say it in the way that I posted at all, she just said it was equally as important to her that the people she wanted were there than the location, so if there was people that couldn't attend she could change it to UK. It wasnt said in a nasty way at all and I know she'd rather that her special guests were there than where she is getting married. But I know her too well and I know she wouldn't be totally happy. She's moved the resort she wanted the wedding at to a child friendly hotel (Im the only one in the party of people invited with young children) as she originally wanted it in an adults only but she knows Im too soft to leave my children at home lol
I have no problem with the idea of raising and spending the money on the holiday/wedding however its just the thought of raising it is tricky. I need to be more disciplined (I have quite a bad shoe/dress/tattoo habit) and we needed to have a look at our finances anyway and work out where we're going wrong. So it might not be such a bad thing that this has happened anyway and at least we get a holiday at the end of itBut yeah... I dont think finding £350 a month is gonna be easy lol
Congrats on your savings by the way such an amazing figure to reach!! xSavings target! £6000 by May 2015
