I have now broken the £13k barrier and am ridiculously excited about that particular breakthrough! Next target will be £15k, not sure if I will break that by the end of the year as I would like to book a holiday for next year but I'll certainly give it a good go.ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0

July update from me!
My new total is £69,148, so I managed to save £967 in July! Quite pleased with that.
I'm still aiming to save £13,000 in 2013 - I've saved £6,948 so far, so it'll be very challenging to save £6,052 in the next five months. But we'll see!
Very exciting to be almost at the £70,000 mark

You're both doing amazingly well too, and Nat - wow @ your weight loss and comp wins! Good going!
My monthly average this year is just under £1,000 - so I'll have to up my game to save £13,000 by the end of the year.It may require some money-making as as well as saving. I have lots of stuff to flog on eBay, just need to get the finger out and do it.

My husband and I are hoping to buy a flat next summer (or sooner if poss!) and want to save about 15,000 by this time next year to add to our existing savings...summer holiday means this is on hold til next month! I'd really appreciate any tips/advice0 -

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on here for a long time, maybe since 2011.
Since I started saving years ago, my savings took quite a hammering, we are now in rented accommodation as my OH had to move out of his parents and we discussed that living together would be a good idea.
We got engaged at the end of 2011 and got married early this year
So the savings took quite a hit (we carried on saving to put in 'the pot') but have ended up with more than we thought, we over estimated how much it would have got and we did get some bargains off flowers etc:)
Our aim now is to keep saving so we can put down 20% on a house around the 220-230k and stay there forever (we hope)
Good luck everyone saving, definitely a long slog, but it will all be worth it in the end

So many people save lots of money. But not enjoy money itself. In the terms of capitalism, money is for use, not for keeping.
Whilst this can be true it does not fit every context.
Many have specific goals for using/enjoying money eg. New home etc that requires much larger sums initially. Therefore, much larger sums need to be saved.0
