  • I'd like to join in, please!

I'd like to save £1500 by next April as we are going to Florida and this will be our spending money.

I've worked out it is about £50 to save each week

I've already got £39 in an unused account, which I will use for this challenge (3% interest) and £49 in PayPal.

So only another £1412 to go.

Last posted here 4 months ago when I had £3,950 saved, I'm now up to £5,710! I have now finished my placement so unfortunately no more paydays coming in, so saving in my final two years before graduation will be largely from student loans, roughly £2,000 per year to hit my target. Will be difficult but doable, we'll have to see!
  • Hi everyone,

Just an update from me, with my calculations (hopefully correct) we should have hit the £28,000!!! As of tomorrow, once interest has been paid. I will update the sig in a couple days :) we saved £1,320 and a little bit of interest.
Saving for a deposit for a place of my own.....
:jSavings so far £29,450/£40,000:j 73.6% SAVED!!!

No Monthly Car Payments left! Paid off on the 5/11/10!
  • Last week I saved £4.87 from my purse, and £35.10 from e-bay sales.

So my YTD total is £127.97 vs target of £92!

Now only £1372.03 to go by April 2014.

Just hit the £14k mark in the ISA, although not sure how long it'll stay like that as I think I'm going to need a new laptop soon (this one is on the blink!) and may be going away later in the year but for now, it's £14k. This is the most I've ever been able to save so very pleased with progress at the moment!
ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)
  • Hi, i know its a bit late, but can i join in. I was wanting to save £1,000 by xmas, not sure if thats achievable, but im pulling everything in. I have £360 at the moment.
  • It'd be interesting to find out where you're saving your money because with interest rates rock bottom at the moment, I want to see how others are making sure their savings are receiving interest when you take tax and inflation (2.8%) into account. Almost every bank account out there at the moment is earning no more than 0.5% for their customers after these two things are factored in.

Anyone willing to share a breakdown of where their savings sit?

Got 30k in premium bonds, 5k in stocks and shares and 2k in savings account. I wont recommend this fund split since I haven't won a thing in the the last 5 months.. I only went for PB because as you said interest rates are garbage anyway at the moment so whats the point..
  • Thanks for sharing Zars. Over what period did you save, if you don't mind me asking?
