Tara - WOW, you're saving megabucks. Interested to know what you do (have you seen this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1716055 Well done!

I stay at home, 30 years old, I've missed out on a lot of independence and fun others my age have had. Feel a bit down about it. Got about £44k, lost some other money through dodgy investments (lost about £14k). Save ~£1400 a month since I live at home. If I weren't, no way would I be saving that much.... My pension pot is very low, housing costs a fortune, and I think I should have much more saved; feeling pretty grim about things. Big life changes this year (relationship..) meant I never saved half as much as I thought I would.

I don't know if there's a thread for this, but I'm interested to see how much COUPLES save, especially those with kids who may have to pay childcare. It might sound selfish, but I don't think I'll ever have kids, just because I can't see myself affording them - saddens me but hey.

It ok to say save 10% but its harder than that as credit card bills cropped up as well as other stuff. I have a set amount which goes into my and my husband's ISA, a set amount in an ordinary account for xmas as well as a bit for other stuff which crop up. It does not amount to much roughly about at least Im trying to save something as we have 2 kids - one in nursery under 2yrs so high and no contribution and other child goes to childminder before and after school. Im of the opinion it good to have some money put by.

I'd like to join in please, will go look for the deposit saving thread in a minute. I've just paid off my debts with some inheritance and kick-started my savings. Sofar I've got £440 in P2P and the rest dotted around in reg saver and ll0yds vantage. I've got 3yrs o save £30k but would like to save £36k. Plus we're expecting in January so wages will drop around feb/mar. OH is also saving £30k so we can put down over 30% on a mortgage.

I'm wheeler dealering craft supplies on eb4y for extra pennies on top of normal wages. I found the DFW diaries really useful but can't see anything like that for savings.

Well done on becoming debt-free, kerri!!! :T I don't go on DFW much, but I have seen the diaries you're talking about - why not start one? :D

Me, I'm happy just tracking my progress on 3 savings threads and that way I can see how everyone else is doing - if I had to read dozens of diaries as well I'd get no work done lol. How do people keep up with the DFW ones???? Must take all day!

Believe me, my friends who have kids all say that if you thought about whether you could afford them, you'd never have them!

Well done on your savings. £44,000 is an amazing amount to have saved! :T And well done on your relationship. You may not save as much as you did before, but if you two move in together or marry, you'll save a lot on bills. :D And you did say that you'd missed out on fun, so now's the time to have some. Good luck.

BTW, I haven't seen that thread before! To answer your question, I work in the public sector and earn more than I'm worth. :o

  • How the people save now, because prices of all products going up. Inflation rate is increasing day by day, prices going up. People living cost increase but their income is not increasing as these thing increase. How we can save?

Have you any other idea that help to save more money in these situations

If you are seeking practical ways to cut costs then check out the Old-Style Moneysaving board and the debt-free moneysaving board.

    Both have good tips.

If you post your income and spending as a Statement of Affairs in the debt free board (one of the posts shows you how) then people will look at your outgoings and suggest where you can cut spending, then the old-style board will help you do it.
Aiming to get healthy in 2014.

I've been following this forum and site for a good 2 years now.
I've also been saving for that long and managed to save up for a little nest egg. (Thanks to the inspiration from this site)

It's great to see how this site can inspire other people. Keep up the good work!

    October update from me:

I have saved £813 this month - less than I'd have liked, but I've had quite a few nights out this month :o and I enjoyed them! So it's all good :D

My new total is £72,344. I have to save £2,656 in the next two months to hit my target, which will be very ambitious to say the least. But even if I don't hit it, I'll have got most of the way there. And that's better than nothing, eh?

    Good luck everyone

I'm married with a child. I don't save much at all but I still have the savings I made before DD came along. If you can save £1400 a month you can afford to have children - just don't expect to keep saving £1400 a month as well! Ask yourself what are you saving for? There is nothing wrong with saving, in fact it is very admirable, but to do it to the extent where you exclude any of life's joys (and I certainly consider being a Dad a joy) then what will your life really have been worth?

Just my opinion, and that isn't usually worth much.

I couldn't agree more. Life is for living. I'm happy to make sacrifices to save, but I won't sacrifice things that are *really* important - and for me, that's socialising and travelling. I wouldn't stay in every night to save money, no way.
