  • Hello !

I just got married few months ago and we started saving for a deposit to get a flat in london.

I've been looking around and it's blo**dy expensive nowdays...

I could save £900/Month, but even this will take me couple of years to get a decent deposit.

I've got £3500 so far of savings

Just keep plugging away at it.... is the £900/Month the amount that can be save jointly? or your contribution??
  • Unfortunately It's a joint contribution.

We have to pay part of my parents rent as well as ours as they couldn't afford renting the flat otherwise.

Maybe we can get it up to £1000 in 3 month, when my wive gets a better job, but for now it's only that I am afraid.

Its quite normal to have to save for a few years to get a house deposit. I saved for 3 years for my first place.

Hi I just found your thread whilst mooching around. I am trying to save for a house deposit too. I am 36 and live in rented accommodation from my husbands work...which he leaves in 6 years!!!(with 2 DS under 6 years old and DH) So I need a deposit and soon...

I hope to raise £30000 by April 2013 Then a further £30000 by April 2015...then I want a house and mortgage... I started to save this tax year with opening an ISA and have saved a lovely £4021.88 so far...I hope to put away £1000+ per month (although sadly only get £6.50 an hour and 9 hours work a week!) I will be ebaying alot I think...My DH is contributing aswell and I am using up every penny of a work pension too.

Fingers crossed I can do as well as some of you peeps on here.

Doing better than i expected this year :-) thinking today that would like to save £100,000 in 10 years. Should be possible??
    Savings target by December 2011:
    ISA: 5100
    Child trust fund: 1200
    Instant Access: 1400
    Credit Union: 300

Wow, £100'000!!! You must be very determined. I salute you :T

I feel like a bit of a spendthrift, saving a poxy £1000 a month! I couldn't imagine saving for ten years. My goals are a bit more short term.
