Redbull, try and pay your insurance in one? Cheaper and it saves the burden of it...then put that £140 away back into savings? What job do you do? Seems like your time must be out if your due a massive payrise in October. My times out in July and i cant wait, massive payrise for me to!!

    Hello All,

I hope you don't mind but I am thinking of joining you in this saving's thread.

I have a couple of things that we are looking to save for.

    1. We are getting married next Sept 2012 we need approx £9K
    2. After we get married we are looking to relocate back down south closer to my work. We need Approx £15-18k

So all in all I would like to be able to get to the £30k mark as soon as possible

Luckily I get the opportunity to do quite a bit of overtime which is where most of my savings will come from. Due to working away from home I have to pay for accommodation where I work. We had thought about renting closer to my work and renting our house out but don't think we would save much if any money to be fair.

Any help and guidance much appreciated

Hi rictus, Erm i paid it off last year but i never put anything away monthly to compensate for it. I have the money to pay it off but if i pay it monthly and keep the lump sum i will be more strick on my budget. I still dont know wheather to save my birthday money or get the new galaxy s 2?

Also do our pay go up due to the new tax codes? must get a few extra ££?

Due to new tax codes i think i get an extra £5 a week or something? Not much worth shouting about but better to have it added on than taken off!

    Hi everyone,

We are saving for our little one who is due in July. I have some cash saved but seriously need to shave cash from shopping, petrol, bills etc to bulk it up a bit as only 15 weeks to go now...

Maternity pay is so low and OH will take 2 weeks paternity leave which is also shamefully low. Wish the UK was more in line with nordic countries for the work / life balance in terms of raising a family.

Anyway, May will be a new start and I really hope we can make some progress.

Never know when i might need some money urgently. staying up to see football league show, hopefully sheffield united can stay in the championship, 2 wins in a row coming from behind each time. I wouldn't say that spending more on a newer car was a mistake, the first car I bought was a 57 Reg Peugeot 107 in mid 2009, cost me £4.9k but...

    • £20 road tax for it this year
    • Only repair cost was 2 tyres since I bought it, around £100
So I would say it's not at all a bad idea to spend more on a car at first, you might have got some banger for £500 to £1k, BUT had to spend £1k a year getting it repaired, plus the fact that it would look shoddy compared to a newer car!
