Ha ha Jimlad, I almost read it like that too...

Eleanor I am jealous of your life on a boat!

We seem to have been saving forever. Tomorrow is our 10 years together, married for 7 of those. In the beginning we saved to travel to South East Asia, then got engaged there so when we got back, saved for wedding. Then once that was paid for, we started saving for a house deposit. Bought a place just over a year ago and spent 2010 paying for lots of work to it and DIY = no savings. Then when we thought we were in the clear... a mini EagerLearner is on the way! So another savings goal... and 16 weeks left to save!

SooooOoo... this month, saved another £250 and also paid for our water bill for the whole year so it's one less bill to worry about when bubs arrived. Any tips on what else we can do?

No advice but just wanted to say congrats!
ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)

Ha Ha Jimlad! No - one husband is plenty thank you -he is very lovely! He has had a paycut this year, but I am earning more than I did last year and since he is on a fixed income, it will be up to me to earn the money we save. I currently earn some as a playworker, an English Tutor and a genealogist. I need to build the genealogy up into a better business and do less of the playworker stuff - which is minimum wage....

I want to join too! I've managed to save almost 1500 since the end of last year but I need inspiration to keep me splurging on stuff from I can afford but just don't need. Now I've got a bit more saved I seem to find it hard to push my saving as much as when I had nothing - I need to be dissuaded from buying rubbish!

One thing that has worked for me was to make an absolute promise to myself not to buy new clothes for three months. I had a shopping spree last week for the first time this year, which was great! I onyl went to New Look and bought work clothes but they were quite reasonable (3 jumpers, pair of trousers and a blouse for about £80). Now I need to convince myself it is a one off and not to be repeated until the summer.

Welcome from a fellow newbie. Instead of splurging £80 every few months, why don't you set a budget of £25 a month? That way it sounds reasonable, you get small treats along the way, and you'll probably save a bit with a fixed budget.

Thanks for the welcomes everybody else... it is awesome living on a boat - I'm on the south east coast :) I have lived aboard for over 3 years now and it's a great way of life.

sounds like everyone's doing well!! And I guess it's time for us all to look for new isas - any suggestions?

Saving's going a it wierd for me at the moment, I'm finding it hard to actually see what/how much is being saved so I think that might be a job for the weekend - working out how much I've increased over the last since January. That would be really worthwhile for me actually. Might try to get a 3rd vantgae account.. has anyone else on here got 3?

So, an update already - I have just paid a big mooring fees bill (which means I have less to pay next year) and have still managed to put an extra £200 in my ISA. I will probably be able to add to that before the end of the month, too - taking my ISA to £2000. Aiming for £2500 by the beginning of next month :) Keep it up guys!

Hi eleanor, I'm seriously considering buying a boat to live on, looking at around 40ft narrowboat. I've been having a look around for residential moorings and they seem very hard to come by... just wondering how best to go about finding one.

Also, does anyone know of any good carboots to do in May around the Notts, Lincs area? I have a whole heap of stuff that is just savings in the making :)

I've officially been able to save £5,000.01. Making my current total, over five thousand pounds!

To celebrate, I've set aside a further £200 to go into my account for the moment, and filled in my application for a provisional driving license online, and paid the £50 fee. I'm thinking about getting lessons, and the only way I can force myself to start, and have to some ID for things, is if I get the license done.

My good monthly 2.75% interest rate from ING is ending on the 25th of this month, and seeing as I'm happy with ING, and them paying interest monthly, I'm sticking with them, and paying a percentage of my money into an ISA with them.

I'm thinking £1,000 at the moment to go into ISA. Does anyone think that is a good amount to pay in?
£5,400 saved so far. Saving for the future.
