Hi eleanor, I'm seriously considering buying a boat to live on, looking at around 40ft narrowboat. I've been having a look around for residential moorings and they seem very hard to come by... just wondering how best to go about finding one.

Also, does anyone know of any good carboots to do in May around the Notts, Lincs area? I have a whole heap of stuff that is just savings in the making :)

    Hi

Your best Notts car boots are Colwick, on the race course and Calverton which runs on a Thursday and Sunday. There is also meant to be a good one at Hucknal but not been to that one. There is also a flea Market every Wednesday on Arnold Market.

    Hope this helps

Yes I have been to the flea Market. It's ok but you don't get great prices people want everything as cheap as they can get it. I guess it depends what your selling and if you just want rid or not!

    Hello everyone!

I stumbled across this forum a couple of days ago when loking for advice on saving and decided it would help me to save if I posted on here too.

I used to have around £10,000 saved up by the time I was 21 years old but thanks to uni that's been reduced to £0. Now I'm trying to build it up by saving £500 every other month.

I've started by trying to cut back on travel costs and take-outs etc and stopping myself from taking £20 out at the atm when I only need £5 or £10. I've saved more than I thought I would just by doing this! When I eventually get paid (the wage system at work being thrown into unecessary chaos with the Royal Wedding) I'm aiming to put £100 into an ISA and If I've got anything left over by the end of next month then that will go in there too.
    Paying off the overdraft:
    End of April= -£500
    Today= -£455

Now at 101% of gross pension contributions plus net pay for the tax years 2006-7 through 2010-11 inclusive. So effectively free living plus a profit on average for the last five years.

2009-10 was the one that really started the investment gains covering expenses story, growing by 180% of income. 2010-11 was more sedate, growing by 113% after paying all my living costs. Back in 2008-9 the gain was only 69%, though that was a bad year for stock markets. 9-10 was the recovery and showed just how good that year was for investments.
  • Iv just started a new long term contracting position which pays well so can start saving again!!

Im 24 and looking to get my own place in 2/3yrs time and need to get to about 50k. So far:

9k in cash ISA paying 3%
15k in Stocks and looking to put some more into funds.
    2k in reg savers

    =26k

Aiming to save 1.5k per month which is abt 70% of my take home pay, but have some big holidays, sports events and shows planned so gona be tough.
