Welcome Wee_Jo and hello to any other newbies and all the regulars!! Sorry I've been away a lot recently.

Soooooo.... I'm up to £37,577 - July was a very expensive month (hols and wedding) so I only saved about £570, but the rest of the year should be cheaper and better savings-wise. I am still on track (hopefully lol). Well done to the rest of you!!!

  • Hi all,

I used to post on this thread a long time ago, but stopped for many reasons that would take too long to explain!

I have now moved back to Australia and after a very expensive few months of setting myself up and furnishing a new (rented) place I am now into the saving mode.

I went to visit a financial planner this week - and my current priority is saving a deposit to buy a house (similar story to a lot of others on the thread!). I won't be able to get a mortgage until I have a permanent job (currently working contract - start at a new job on Monday) so am trying to save as much as possible to have as much deposit as I can when I get to that point.

So far this month I have managed to save $200 into my saving account. I get paid fortnightly so have just set up an automatic saving plan through my saving account for $100/pay. I will also top this up whenever I can but I get a bonus 0.5% interest if I set it up automatically through them.

You guys are all inspirational and I look forward to being more involved in the MSE online community again!

Hi guys! Hope you don't mind me joining in, been looking around the forum for this sort of post, glad I found it! :)

A little bit about my situation... I'm 26, self employed and on a pretty abysmal income, but I love my job, and it pays enough to cover my current outgoings! But due to the nature of my work, I will most likely need to change careers before starting a family, so am saving up to pay for the training necessary for this career change, and also a deposit for a house! I don't have a lot of spare money, so I'm expecting it to be a long slog to get anywhere, but I'm hoping having somewhere to record what I save will motivate me!

I currently have an ISA and have just opened a regular savers account, which pay 2.95% and 3.95% respectively. I just got a big fat rebate from the tax man, and a loan paid back from a friend, so I have just rounded up my ISA savings to £3000! First payment of £85 is due into my RSA tomorrow.

Would like to pay more in, but work is very slow over the summer, so I have enough in my current account to cover my rent until I'm likely to be earning proper amounts again! However, I kinda forgot about the spending money on the holiday I'm having next week, so may need to take the savings out again! Doh! But very unlikely to make the limit on the ISA amount (this year at least!) so not too worried about that!

Thanks to everyone for being so inspiring! :T And good luck with your savings journeys!

Welcome to the thread :D You're doing well already by the sounds of it! I'm self employed too so I know how you feel in the slow months. Glad to find someone else in the same boat who's also trying to save as much as possible!

    Hi everyone,

Im new to the site also (i did sign up last year but have never been on since then till today!)

I have managed to save quite a bit already but coming on here today has made me re evaluate my aims and saving targets I would like to hit, so its nice to meet other people who have the same thoughts :)

I currently have £9500 and my aims are:

    £15000 by 1st April 2011
    £23500 by 1st April 2012

Then that will hopefully be enough for a deposit for my first house!

    Hi All,

I am also new to the website and have decided it would be good to start recording my progress on here in terms of my savings. :j

Having paid off my mortgage a few years ago, I decided the next target would be to save like mad again and build up my savings so I have some security for the future.

I have so far managed to save up a total of £54,000, by being extremely careful with my out-goings and not going on expensive holidays or wasting money on new cars.

Though I still make sure I live life and enjoy every moment.

This thread has motivated me to set and commit to a savings target, which is to have £65,000 by the end of January. I keep my fingers crossed that the future will not prevent me from reaching that target.:(

Anyone here want to join me with the same target date?
