This month seems quite good as I don't seem to be spending a lot so I think I might be able to put an extra £100 than planned. Shall wait and see though.

I love that feeling... but only if it turns out you can at the end of the month!

I struggle at the end of every month, I always do it, and know I am going to do it, but I don't go so bad I end up starving! ;)

I'm starting to think my post isn't reaching me. My employer told me a week ago they'd received a new tax code notice for me (BR! They can stick that somewhere...) , so I'm hoping to receive my copy soon so I can call HMRC about it. I would have called HMRC to query anyway, but I've been poorly :( Still annoyed I haven't received it yet! I suppose I'll call them as soon as I can talk. And, I haven't received my first credit card statement from Santander. It's been a good 6 weeks since I got the card, and I'd like to know how much I've spent on it. Doesn't help that I've left the card at my boyfriend's gran's house, so can't call up and ask for a balance / register online. Really need to sort that.

Ouchies! Hope you get it sorted before you get paid!
  • I called HMRC - got fed up of waiting for the P2 to arrive. First I was on hold for 35 minutes - they must be seriously understaffed. I have cause to call them often at work, but I'd never had to ring the income tax helpline before - awful.

Then, the bloke first told me that he couldn't tell me why my tax code had been changed to BR - cited data protection, and I just laughed - said I'd have to wait for the P2 to arrive with the breakdown. Then he said it's on record that I'm provided with taxable benefits of £130 - this is a professional membership subscription, which I pay myself, and which I'm well aware is tax deductible - and tried to fob me off that this is the reason they want me to pay £2K more a year in tax!!!

Eventually he agreed to return my tax code to what it should be. Such hassle. Grr!

  • Hiya everyone,

Just popping by to see how everyone is getting on.

Haven't managed to save anymore yet but when I get paid at the end of the month I will put some more money in my ISA.

I have started a part-time job so after my next shift I can put a bit of extra money into my new savings!! Trying my hardest to stick to my monthly budget so that I'll have some money left over at the end of the month, but I'm not holding my breath! :rotfl:

Good to hear you're all sorted Lucy. I'm in the midst of starting to claim some tax back which could be a huge boost but I don't want to get my hopes up in case it doesn't happen. I know it's going to be such a hassle, potentially very worth it though!

I've become so competitive since joining this site, I just want to exceed my targets but pay day can't come soon enough! I still haven't gone through an SOA though, I'm too scared overall. I have my terrible shopping binges but overall I know I'm sensible so I don't want to punish myself as if it were.

    Hey Lucy,

Glad you got it all sorted! I had to call HMRC last week too to claim some tax back, it kept disconnecting me because they said they were too busy, however, if you call the "if you're calling from abroad use this number" number, you get straight through, and it's the same team.

Just a wee tip in case you need to call again! :) (Oh, and it's also just a standard landline number so you don't need to pay lo-call rates)

I added the £10 I got from free scratchies to my savings and the last few pounds and pennies in my account to make it a round number!
