I'd like to join this. I'd like to save £3,000 for next year as I will become unemployed so need some money to fall back on to pay mortgage and childcare whilst I am between jobs! Could really do with some encouragement!0

Well done partlydave.
We are now in the fortunate position that having sorted our finances out, got debt and mortgage free, act as if we are still in debt as far as budgeting goes, able to put oodles of money away. £2,500 this month. ( No council tax this month either)
We are in the lovely position that we are poised to put £5,100 each in our ISAs on 6th April.
It took years but when the ball starts rolling for you it is amazing how quickly it accumulates.0 -

Hi All
Can I join. I have been reading through and I can't believe how brilliantly amazing some/most/all of you have been with your money. I have been a complete T*T! But all must change.
My challenge is to fund my cash ISA for 10/11 - which to get it full is a staggering £425 per month - now I don't think i can afford that just yet as I have other commitments till the end of this year but i will give it a go and see where i get to.
Anyway (heres me trying to emulate you all) wish me luck and I can't wait to get going

So here we are
Welcome.
I must admit both my wife and I enjoy good incomes but in years gone by we lived up to and beyond it.
I don't feel like a misery guts or a skinflint since we changed, we enjoy our lives, and even get abroad due to Mr O'Leary's kind offers but the feeling of sheer power over your affairs you get through being ' in front of the game' is marvellous.
Enjoy your savings journey.0 -

Welcome to all the newbies! You're in the right place for motivation! I don't have much to report but got my monthly interest yesterday of 14 pounds so I know I'm kinda in the minus, but that's an account where I get no interrest if I withdraw in a month so I think its better to borrow the money off my boyfriend and give him an extra tenner than it is to lose the interest! Also should be getting next (and last eeek!) Student loan payment soon!! Anyone know when?0

Get Sky+, even though it costs like £20 a month its stops me from being bored and wanting to go out or do something, think, thats less than what most people spend on 1 night out. So your entertainment budget would be a lot smaller. You cant cut out entertainment lol.
It's a good point. We have sky+ and tape loads of films, TV series, documentaries, so we never need to rent DVDs as there's usually something on there we can all watch.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
