How much can you save?

Hi everyone.
I'm new to the boards. I am aiming to save £20K as a deposit on a house.
I graduate as a teacher in 2012 so hopefully I will have the money by then.
At the moment I have just under £7K saved, so hopefully I will get there!

Hi. I was previously saving really well but now find funds much depleted due to marriage breakdown. However, i've just added up how much i've got left and it's £2255. I'm trying to save up a house deposit of £16k. This is my first target anyway, i'll probably need more than that! Anyway, happy saving!

Only 93k! A spring chicken! depending on the type of car, it might go 2x, 4x or even 10x as far!
LOL! She's an MGF with a 1.8i petrol engine, they generally will do 100-150k before needing a new engine - she's a delicate little sports car!I really don't fancy forking out for a new engine any time soon so intend to 0-1000 miles a year in the future - driving with my MG chums across Europe
That's why I need a tough ol' diesel which I don't need to worry about.
Oh, and payday tomorrow for me as well! :j0 -
Hi all,
I thought I'd add myself on to this thread - been reading it for the last few days to get up to speed and have started following some of the advice on here already.
I'm aiming to save £10,000 in a year (by start of November 2010) for a house deposit. I know it's not much for a deposit, but that seems a reasonable target for now.
I currently have £350 (eek - only 3.5% of the total) in an ISA. I became debt-free a couple of months ago, apart from an arranged overdraft which I've got down to £1000.
My take-home pay is £1000 per month from 3 days per week working in an office. The remaining 4 days per week I spend freelancing (I'm a writer and web consultant), and I have an income of around £1000 per month (pre-tax; so that's take-home of approx £650 after tax and business expenses) from freelancing. This is guaranteed until March, and could be until September - I'm negotiating that at the moment. I have other bits and pieces of work coming in here and there, but none are certain yet.
My aim is to push all my freelance income into my ISA and when that's full start paying into a decent medium-notice high interest account, then back into the ISA at the start of the new financial year, and so on.
The £1000 pcm from my day-job covers my rent, bills, food, and other expenses. After Christmas is out of the way I'd like to get this down as much as possible so I can get out of the overdraft and then start saving even more.
Oh, and I've signed up for Quidco and I'm doing as much Christmas shopping as possible using it! I may also need new computer equipment for the business in the new year, so I'll be using it for that too...
Anything else I may have missed? Other ways to make/save money? I'll keep looking through the threads here for other ideas. Petrol seems to be the biggest expense for me at the moment and I'd love to get the cost of that down.Saving target: £10,000 by 1 November 2010
Current savings: [STRIKE]£350 (3.5%)[/STRIKE] £370 (3.7%)
Debt: £1000 overdraft, student loan, £250 to dad, [STRIKE]29p on credit card(!)[/STRIKE]0 -
Hi all,
Good to see how well so many people are doing with their saving. I'm gradually adding bits and bobs - up to 4308.90 now and should be getting a Christmas Bonus in my next pay which could add another 200 or so. Also got a couple of days freelance in December so maybe another 300 too.
Good luck to you all and keep looking after those pennies!Saving hard for Financial Independence0 -
