Have to reduce my savings target each month as planning to over pay mortage instead. Going to empty all my piggy banks this weekend and bank the money saved. Hoping this will help with cost of Christmas. Did manage to get a good deal on Delia's Christmas book through work - just £10 so may try to get a few more books as presents. Trick this year is to write a list including stocking fillers and stick to it. It is the stocking fillers where I tend to go a bit mad. Finally got rebate from student loan company ..over £1,000 so very happy.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000

Counted all my coins and used them to pay off my credit card! hopefully I wont regret that - i might take the money out of next months pay and put it into my savings.
Wondering if i should pay off the last of my car loan with savings as i only have 4 payments left on 0% but I really hate the payments coming out and can't stop thinking about it.
Maybe i need to stop worrying and leave it be..0 -
If your car loan is 0% then don't pay it off with savings! Even if your rate is rubbish you'll be throwing away money!
If, on the other hand, your deal is running out soon and you still have payments left, go for itSlimming World member - started 13 January 2010Starting weight: 11st 4.5lbs :eek:/ Current weight 11stMini Goal 1: 10st 11.5lbs (1/2 stone)10% Goal: 10st 2.5lbsMini Goal 2: 9st 9.5lbsGoal weight: 9st / 2.5lbs to MG1!0 -

Hi all,
Long time no type once again, hope everyone's well and saving merrily. Suffered a bit of a set back since September when I had to go down to 4 days a week at work and take the associated pay reductionAt circa £900 a month in the winter (when the horses get expensive, feed, hay etc) I'm just staying afloat, however it's payday on Friday and I'm regretting shoving £200 in my ISA at the beginning of the month as I'm totally skint!
On the plus side, there's a real chance that OH's parents will help us out with the house deposit, which is fantastic and I couldn't thank them enough. I'm trying not to slow up on the saving though, even though it's difficult because of work. Going to have to pay for moving costs, solicitors etc. Does that average around £3000 per house move? (we're FTBs)
Also, I desperately need a new car, my poor girl had 93k on her and is my P&J, although it's only worth around £1000 now so I'll be storing and restoring her when I can afford it. I don't want to spend any more than £2500 on a new car, must have very good MPG as I drive up and down motorways a lot, very reliable and big enough to cart horsey gear around. I'm thinking a VW Passatt, Rover 75 or similar, although it's hard dipping into my beloved ISA.
Sorry, not much on saving so far! Since times are tight, I think I'll be trying to put a little away in my short term savings each month, for emergencies and keep fingers crossed that things pick up. Annoyingly, I can't think of anywhere I can get work for one day a week!0 -

Maybe a shop/cafe? Especially if it's a Friday, they're always busier then.
Otherwise there's home working, or you could look up these boards for ideas on how to earn money online.

minidanii I'm quite tempted to move some money into saving before payday too, although I always live in fear of the unexpected DD. Although my account is looking pretty healthy at this moment. Hmmmm.....I could move half the amount there's definitely no unexpected bill that's that big and then I think I'd hit my savings target and benefit from a teeny bit more interest. And on the note of extra interest my bonus amount is coming to an end I should really look for another account but I need to weigh it against the lure of easy access. Yet more decisions!0

well i am quite lucky my parents don't charge me, but they always expect me to go on holidays with them, my mums always like where will we go next, she's now expecting me to go to new york with with, am like i have no money, but reality am trying to make an effort and save to move out.
I want to get a house before prices jump up even more.
its scary considering where i live with my parents, it was bought 23years ago at £21,000
this area now ranges from £110,000 - £125,000 and that is only a flat !
my brother has just bought his first place and thats outs of the city, up and down stair house, his own main door etc, for only £85,000
I guess your paying for what you get, i mean i live in edinburgh so its hardy for getting to places, but if you live out of town you really need a car, ( well i do have a car)
Well the only bill I have is the phoneline and broadband which i pay for £32.50 a month with bt.
My mobile is pay as you go, i have an iphone which i unlocked, so i use vodafone, they have an offer when you top up once a month, £5 for free txt weekends, £10 for evening and weekends, or £30 for unlimited
so i top up £10, which lasts me about a week, then after i'll wait till after half 7 to txt people or have all weekend to txt for free0
