Hi everyone, my savings are now up to £27,700. Was really hoping to hit £30,000 by the end of the year but this won't be possible as I only earn £1,000 a month. Also it's my 23rd next week so may spend a bit on drinks!Competion Wins 2008 - £1700 - 2009 £5300
2010- £6800 -

I can't believe how much I have learned from this site and how little I really knew about money!!
2010 is my year to improve my credit score - couldn't do that without checking my position in the first place - joined up Experian and found my credit score to be below the national average, but set to improve =]
I could also see clearly what is left holding my score back and I can now sort this out in the next few months.
So my saving plan has gone a little off centre for the meantime, but not a problem... it is all going to be better in the long run! Not to mention my car kept cutting out on me this morning, so it had to go off to the garage... and was a hefty £239.20 (not even everything it needed either), on a car I've only had for 3 months =[ But I couldnt be without it!
Anyway, little money thinking off my mind there

so i left my first comment about a month ago, saying i have saved £6000, and before i wasn't a really good saver for a 21 years ago.
now i have in my monthly saver £6313.85
and £70 in my isa
i have about £800 in my bank card, but i would rather have the money on there till the next wage, as if you take money out you saver you don't get interest.
I am thinking i should try make an aim , for around £10,000 by January 2010 wage.
it will be hard as my wage is only about £800 a month with no overtime, but when i do sunday over time, i get around £1100. so leaves me with around £100 a month to spend
well this wage at the end of the month is the last really before christmas, i have done quite a few shifts after my shifts, so hopefully that will make up for prezzies, but also more tax.
we do then get paid on christmas eve i think, maybe a day or 2 before christmas.
then will be my january wage ! which i hope to have saved £10,000
its hard saving, but its really fun at the same time seeing other people on this site, are in the same position0 -

I like to keep my money until payday then save the money from last pay time then if that makes sense, because i hate the thought of being without any money if anything came up. I have just opened a savings account so i can keep £300 in there and it has a cash card so if i ever need any money in an emergency it is there.
Well yesterday (Friday 13th!) i got a letter through the post congratulating me on winning on my premium bonds! I was so excited it was only £25 but it really made my day as i am usually superstitious and was expecting an unluckly day but it just goes to show its all a load of rubbish ha.
I mentioned before that i had found car insurance for £900 well unfortunately for me i had accidently entered the wrong date of birth so it made me 10 years older which is why my it was so much cheaper. Oh well i thought it might be too good to be true so no saving for me next month as i will be using the £400 i was going to save to add to my car fund. I was expecting to pay around £1300 before i found the cheap quote so i am not too disappointed.
Overtime is drying up where im working now so not that much extra money really had two weekends off which i would of atleast worked them if i had the chance. Im working next weekend though both days but won't get paid for that until xmas eve.
So overall a bit of good and bad news but i am happy with the premium bond win as i have only had it in there 6 months and got £25 where i would have only got £30 interest for a whole year and theres still 6 months left where i have the chance to win something else.:j19 and saving for a car as a 21st Birthday present to myself!:j£7200/£9000 77% there!1 premium bond win £25

Hi All,
I've been lurking on the site for about 3 months now soaking up all the advice. I've decided to set myself a target of saving 3 months salary so have applied for a savings account that pays 2.49% but is offset against my mortgage (so tax free). So aiming for about £6,500, currently have £638, haven't decided on a time scale yet - maybe in 6 months? (using quidco, ebay and bonuses from work as well as budgeting)

Hi Claire, welcome to the thread!Good luck with getting to your £6,500 goal. How much are you planning to put away with each month? Most of us on here vary quite wildly on how much we save per month - I know that amount would take me a very long time to save up as my pay fluctuates a lot!

Starting point is £100/month which is my surplus using the MSE budget planner, I get bonuses quarterly (assuming I hit targets!) so hoping to make £1500 by the new year - fingers crossed.
Must figure out how to do a signature so I can keep myself on track.......0
