    Hi Folks,
    SIZE DOWN

    http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

Use that! It takes everything into consideration. You have forgotten council tax.

Anyway my update. I got paid today YEY. I transferred £400 into savings, so will update signature in a bit.

Its my birthday tomoz! YEYEYEYYEYEY (21!!!), so I am hoping I get some money for that as I did budget for it.... I didn't ask for a lot as I didn't really have much in mind to what I wanted.

I am going to get Domino's tonight. I was going to have it tomorrow but I'd rather have it tonight and have BOGOF (haha MSE in me).

Firstly thank you for your prompt reponse and the link which is V useful. You're absolutely right. I'll have to look to see what we pay for council tax.

As for sizing down well there are 3 of us plus cat. We live in a 2 bed flat. we could size down but would then have to get rid of stuff we use. We've already got rid of an awful lot of things we didn't need through car booties and e-bay.

Also whilst the statement of account list gives a nice complete list of things to enter it gives no indication of what the values should be e.g. when it comes to household groceries I feel we spend too much (but this is just a feeling). I have no proof or evidence. Whats reasonable £50 is probably too little whereas £500 is probably too much. The trouble is whats reasonable for high quality fresh food for a family of 3 for grocery spending? That number is the one I'd like to put in a statement of account.

Many congrats on the birthday :T

If you fill it in and either post it here:

There are people who can tell you where you might be overspending. I spend around £80 a month on food and this is being a bit generous. I do buy lots of crappy expensive food every now and again which I could cut out (but I refuse to!).

The DFW board might be a bit stricter than that budgeting board though as they usually try and cut out any luxuries and such.

Ooooo and make sure you post it in MSE format. :)

just want to say your post rather amused me, especially your own little grumblings about your 18 yr old!

    Hi,
This is my first post in MSE. I've been saving for the past 2 years, always trying to transfer £1,000 monthly to my e-savings account.
Sometime I did manage to do so. Recently, though, this came down to an average of £500. This is due to a bigger flat (higher rent), annual holidays abroad and some luxuries of the first year of marriage (still excited celebrating).
My aim is to buy a house in the next two years. I'd like to have around £20,000 for deposit.
I have £9,000 at the moment.
Hopefully my wife will get a permanent job next year and help with the monthly savings. Then her savings can go towards legal fees and other extras.
Thanks everyone for all the postings and tips here.

Hi to the newbies - welcome to the thread! :D

Lokolo - Happy birthday for tomorrow! :D

My update: Just transferred a small amount (£36) to the ISA as it was all I could spare after my latest freelance payment hit my account, but it puts me a mere £5.10 away from my goal of having £4k in the ISA by the end of the year (and £9k in total savings but the rest is tied up at the moment). I'm due another payment in the next 7 to 10 days so should be able to officially meet the goal! :D
ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)

A little top up of £50 to my savings today and that'll be it till the end of the month (which seems ages away!)

Weirdly my ex rang me at midnight last night to say happy birthday and to talk. So I opened my presents on phone to her.

My mother went crazy with baking materials. I baked a chocolate cake a few weeks ago and now she thinks I love it, so has bought me loads of baking stuff. Crazy.

I also got a lot of money. I estimated £100. Got £600. :D:D:D:D:D Gotta love mums and grandparents eh!

So when I've banked cheques I shall add more to savings, then splash the rest :)

Hope everyone else has an awesome day!

Happy birthday Lok, my birthday too recently and another cheque of £250 arrived today (my Nan is very generous) when I get to the bank that'll be a nice addition.

The only other news is that my mac has stopped working (4 years old), he's at the repair shop and I hope they can resurrect him otherwise it's going to be a hell of a cost to buy another one!

Wow, you've done well on the money front - I'm lucky if I got £70! How many relatives have you got?! :D

I've had the rest of my payments through today so I've rounded up the ISA to £4k now. My year-end goal is officially met! :D
