Topped up with another £400 worth of Premium Bonds today.
Well ahead of my EOY 2010 target but as I expect a small fall in income from July 2009 its best to try and get ahead now.0 -
Hi moneysavers.
So i was at a bbq last week and my friends brother who works as a financial invester suggested that i should put my savings in us dollars as this could be better than saving in sterling. Can anybody confirm this and explain why its beneficial. I can only guess that it is because the dollar could be more likely to remain a stronger currency in the long run where as the pound could be more likely to decrease in value comparitively. I was considering putting up to half of my savings in dollars. I am only talking small amounts here below £5000, How do i find a savings account that accepts us dollars? Is it worth it?
Thanx for any help.0 -
If you want to take the risk that the dollar will end up getting you a better return. He said this because he thinks in the future you will get more £'s for your dollars.
But its all guesswork to be fair... but if he is having a BBQ instead of having a playboy mansion can he be right?0 -
Hi there,
An update for you - I should have approximately 9k by the end of this month.
How are your savings doing Luce? Still in the race with me????
(And what may I ask are your latest endeavours in order to save, save, save!?). I've been dipping into my loose change box recently whenever I need the odd thing or two, say groceries instead of taking all my coins to one of those machines in Asdas (Coinstar, I think) where you get a printed receipt which you take to the nearest till and they give you some cash. I know for this service you pay say 7p in the pound (something like that) so you might as well use your loose change as you go so as not to incur any losses by putting it in Coinstar. Just a little tip!
Best wishes

What an awful weekend of spending i have had! Visited some friends about 150 miles away which cost me a tank of fuel and had a take away in the evening that cost 10!

Premium Bonds topped up with £400 to bring my total holding to £6000 (15 x £400 blocks).
That will be all on Premium Bonds for the next 3 weeks as I am paying off next years Council Tax Bill so I don't have to face any monthly payments from April.
I paid off £225 off next years Council Tax Bill today and already had £200 paid off 2 weeks ago. For the next 3 weeks I will pay 3 lots of £225 so when the bill arrives at the end of March it will leave nothing to pay 2009/2010.
Valentines was nice and frugal in the NPowerUser household. We both agreed to not bother with any cards, chocs or prezzies and treat each other to several lunches in May 2009 instead at a wonderful pub overlooking the sea 12 miles away from where we live.0 -
Speaking of Chlamydia....
If I do a free chlamydia test through the post I get a free £5 boots voucher. Some initiative I think to get young folk like myself to get tested. Now there's no chance I have chlamydia (see Valentine's day post) so it does feel a little underhand to do a test for a fiver. Not to mention the fact that I'd possibly feel a little violated, sending in a sample through the post for a fiver.
