Sorry, pink_numbers, I'm sure it's only a typo but your signature made me giggle! You started your challenge 6 months into the future... but it's going well! :D

Yeah I think £10k is a nice target, very round number! 'Ten thousand pounds' sounds nice. So good luck fellow Ten k'ers :D

My target is about as specific as it gets, the date of graduation, which I'm not actually 100% sure of. Should probably find out! If I have £6,400 at the end of this year that'll be ok, but it'll make next year pretty tricky. I actually currently have £5k in savings, but not the ISA so I'm not counting that at the moment, since I have the excess to 'dip into' if I need it. I also have £1k invested, but I'll be taking that out hopefully in the next few months after collecting some dividends.

    So I'm on track, just!

Your on! - I'm up for the challenge. It's stake out time, lol :D. Right, well I have 6,300 pounds in my savings pot right now and I want to get to 10k as quickly as possible (first stage!).

I'm also thinking of developing my writing skills around my current job and making some cash from this. I have also been trawling my wardrobe as I hoard EVERYTHING and have been for years - well its time for a clear-out and I have some cards from my local Tesco store to fill in, in order to display any items that I have for sale - I'll see how that goes...

Good luck with your savings too - I hope I don't fall by the wayside, you know, get distracted with sales and things..... lol, (I'll give myself a big slap if I do before imparting with any cash!!!!).

    Best wishes

  • I have a head start on you in that I have about £8600 saved at the moment - but I have to dip into this for my car insurance (£700) in early March :(

I could probably make some money by selling stuff... but I really don't want the hassle, lazy I know. The easiest way looks like ebay... BUT I really don't like ebay - I've never tried selling, but I just generally dislike the place, so I don't want to sell there.

I have withdrawn £80 from the bank on monday gone... To basically cover my expenses for the week like travelling and food etc...

I'm in effect another 10K'er in effect for the year... Thats not for my total savings though.

  • I need some advice.

A company owes me £20, which I would like to get back. (Bought present for my dad online back in December, but it wasn't delivered - they sent me a note saying "out of stock, refund will be sent"). I gave them 3 weeks before I started chasing, as I assumed the slow refund was due to Christmas/New Year etc. I sent an email to remind them that I needed a refund on 8th January, and a follow up 10 days later when I'd still not heard from them. I have had no response. I haven't been able to phone them, as they're only open office hours, and I have been working outside of my office recently so it is not appropriate to make a personal phone call in my lunch hour (lol, as if). I know it's only £20... but I really want it back!

What would you do? I will write, but I'm not prepared to take them to court as it wouldn't be worth it for £20, so any threat I make will look pretty hollow. :(

EDIT: I know this is way off topic... but I can make it on topic by telling everyone that the refund will be put straight into my savings!

How come you cant ring them in your lunch hour? That would prolly be most effective. If not, try writing to them.

  • It'd be okay if I was in the office, but I'm spending too much time out at clients lately. I should plan ahead so my lunch hours fall in line with my visits to the office!

Ah thats lame. Spam them with letters I say!!

Tomorrow money should arrive in my current account so I can then fill up this years ISA allowance.

Also next year on placement I get half the normal loan, so thats an extra £1700 next year so I should easily be able to fill up most of my target by the end of graduation and maybe put more away!
