Haha yes I'm hoping to do better this year than last too! Maybe we should start a 'How little can you make?' thread. As long as inflation keeps falling it should be ok, we'll pull through.

For me I want to put aside £10k by the time I graduate, interest will make that easier, so really it's just a bonus. That's how I'm helping myself sleep at night anyway!

Masomnia - Cool we have the same target! Uh-oh - I'm being beaten by a student! ;);) Sadly I think my current savings total is going to be eaten up soon as I need to buy a new car...

    Baaaaaaaaah to the BOE!!

Most of my money is on deposit at fixed rates (Nationwide ISA Bond till April 09, 6.15%, Halifax RS till June 09, 10%, A&L Premier Direct till Nov 09, 8.5%) but not for much longer! :( I am faced with insulting rates when I come off these fixes.

I am reacting to the cut by being even more frugal and saving more to make up for the loss of interest! So the opposite of what was intended really. Up yours, Gordon!!

My target is 10k too for a house deposit. thought i'd update my signature. I've managed to fix my car, but still expecting to have to pay out for a new one at some point. Which will make me cry!

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Saving is putting money away - if it grows a little with interest, that's brilliant, but at least we're putting cash aside if it doesn't.

  • absolutely, great if we get some interest (£7 this month. Woop. ) but really I think of my savings accounts as if they were jars on the mantlepiece with money shared out for different purposes...I'm a simple creature :)

  • Hi savers

I just thought I'd say I've been thinking of setting myself a target. For the moment it's 20k by end 2010.

  • Don't say "For the moment" - set it in stone! Your target is 20k by the end of 2010. That's about where I should be by then - race yer! I find it really useful to have a definite target to work towards. The more specific the better.

  • Each year I attempt to save 10K and fail (usually only manage about 6K). This year, I am trying for 10K again, and it looks more likely than the years before so far... *fingers crossed*
