Like Wanno I want to start saving for a flat deposit and I reckon this will help to motivate me.
This time last year I was in debt to the tune of £5,000 and didn't have a hope of saving anything. However, I was lucky in that I got a better paid job followed by two promotions, so I'm now in the position of being able to save money instead of chucking every spare penny at my debts.
Last month I cleared £900 (ouch!) off my credit card, which means I'm now debt-free. This month, when I got paid, the first thing I did was put £500 into a cash ISA, and today I added another £500 - so I have the grand total of £1,000 saved so far. I hope to put £500 into this every month until I reach my £3,000 allowance.
After April 2007 I'll open another cash ISA, followed by a regular savings account.
I'm aiming to save close to £20,000 in two years, starting from now.
That will be great to save that amount in two years.I work on behalf of MS, however, my views do not necessarily reflect theirs, I am not acting as a representative of the company while on this forum and I cannot warrant that what I say is 100% correct in all cases.0 -
I am with everybody on the savings front and found ReportInvestor's post very useful and checked out the websites for the regular savers. Couldn't find the 10% Barclays one on their website (could be my poor navigation).
Is it on the website???
Also found that HSBC said you have to have your salary paid into the current account before you could open a regular saver. I have a current account but have my salary paid elsewhere. Is there a way round this?
Thanks
Yes, you can easily change where you get your salary paid.I work on behalf of MS, however, my views do not necessarily reflect theirs, I am not acting as a representative of the company while on this forum and I cannot warrant that what I say is 100% correct in all cases.0 -

Going back a bit to the earlier conversation about having to sort coins (sorry, not been online over the weekend), have you tried those CoinStar machines? I use them whenever I need to get cash for my coins, they usually charge 7p per £1 which I think it reasonable if it saves me having to sort all those coins out0

But to me, spending £3.50 to sort coins out for 20min doesn't seem worthwhile
However they are a very good idea!0 -
I pay all the 50p,£1 and £2 coins i get from my pizza deliveries into a coin tin. I banked 2 lots of £100 roughly before xmas! Ive got one of the tins that holds upto £500 and its about 1/5 full i reckon in just over a month. hoping to hold on til its pretty much full but i always like to bank it so it can start earning some interest, if only a little! yeah payday tomorrow! more premium bonds!!!!!Millionaire in Training
