  • Yeah... well, I won't stop looking. I went shopping earlier with my sister, and annoyed her by reading the posters in the windows of every bank and building society we passed!

  • Youre Welcome Moonsharp,

regarding the nephews? how old are they may I ask? I feel its a shame we arent taught about the basic principles of money and saving in school, Its actually a project Im trying to set up in my local area? I wished somebody wouldve come and taught me these things when i was in school?

I was really into my art at school, and all the career meetings were 'yes you can do this and yes you could do this' but nobody actually tells you how to get a decent job with decent prospects that will pay your bills? This country needs that, we need to start at the very bottom for a brighter tomorrow.

I was very lucky growing up, my dad was in a really good job when i was little, he got made redundant along with a lot of other people at the tractor plant he worked at, and lots of people blamed my dad for losing their jobs? He took it really hard and it wasnt his fault, he worked 7 days a week to keep people in their jobs, but it wasnt enough for some people, but I can remember his IFA coming round and advising him that he would be ok in the long run because he had been sensible.. he still works locally but he says hes comfortble, and only works to keep my mum quiet!!!!!

I guess thats where i get it from, this money hoarding lark (plus im from yorkshire, we are tight anyway?) ha

Before i bought my house, my parents didnt charge me any rent and my mates called me 'lucky' but I had to show my dad my bank statements every month to show him that id saved £750 from my wage....it used to annoy me so much but it was totally worth it!

I will teach my kids the exact same, but you cant make them do it? I reckon its leading by example

God I sound old, im only 27!!!!

  • Hi all,

Not too good this month and last. Have been working in London for the last 3 weeks, and although I get some of the train fares reimbursed, I have to pay for the first 2 trips per week. This and the need to buy bedroom furniture over the last 2 months has meant saving is down to £100 per month for the last 2 months.

Should sort itself out after this payday, but then Christmas is on the horizon!

The thousand didn't arrive today, but I wasn't too hopeful anyway. Perhaps tomorrow, we shall see. Fortunately I don't have much occasion to spend money these days! Doesn't look like I'll be going out this week, so that's always a big saving, but the rent goes out tomorrow, which is why I'm now in trouble again.

Have enough money in my current account (read, I have enough overdraft left) to cover the rent and a week or two's expenditure assuming I don't socialize!

So since I'm not going to do anything expensive, I think I'm going to treat myself o lunch tomorrow and I'm off to a piano recital in the evening, at the low low price of £2.50! You don't need lots of money to have a good time :)

  • I'm expecting my transfers to and from KE to hit that and my current account tomorrow. It was only a pound each way, but I'm really excited/nervous about it! I need to know it still works!

EDIT: Woot! I got the 2000th post in this thread! :D

My wife and I are cutting back on presents for each other. I think we're looking at £20 each for that, there's not much we need really so anything new tends to just be junk lying around the house. We had a baby girl last year on Christmas Day so we'll be having some fun with her and maybe buy her a few little things. Other than that, I think we'll be doing the same as all through this year; uncluttering and saving money wherever possible.
