How fab, i've only just found this thread. Was thinking of this myself earlier how there where so many threads about getting out of debt but nothing to save for. I've just found out my house has got secondary flooding, last June by home city received some of the worst floods in Britain yet cos we are Hull it was hardly even reported on! anyways we didn't have a drop of water in our house but the last 6 months its been slowly creeping up my walls! yikes.
Obviously the insurance company are paying to strip the house of its floors and plaster but all our contents are okay.
So basically i'm saving to splash out once we return home, i want new curtains, rug, cushions, pictures, kitchen equipments , plates, cups etc etc! been saving for 2 months now and i have the grand total of £1,270.81p! can buy a lotta cups for that!
been saving by joining in on the grocery challenge and have cut by shopping bills by a wopping 30%!, also just not spending and saving instead. One Happy Mummy!0 -
* Savings Update - August 2008 *
Hi all again, Another good month for me to post. I have managed to bank another £900 which has set me on course to smashing my total record for the year and were only 2/3rds the way through 2008!!! However next month doesnt look too bright because of my holiday i had this month which ment i wasnt getting any overtime and i just get contract pay for 2 weeks which is disappointing but i suppose i have to take my holiday entitlement at sometime. I did enjoy my break from work having 2 weeks away to clear my mind and refresh myself a little.

Well done McSaver! It's good to read of other's savings success!
I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday. Did you go anywhere nice? I've not yet had a holiday, but I have been working so hard I'll drop soon if I don't get one! Me and my bf have a week off at the end of September. We like to do things on a whim, so we'll leave it until that week to work out where we'll go and what we'll do.
I just can't wait until tomorrow. Payday! I get to finalise my figures, complete my profit and loss and net worth spreadsheets, and be happy that I'm closer to my target!Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

Thanks Lucy but...
ME??? Holidays away??? I dont do holidays away... I'm Single arent I. I havent got anybody to go abroad with lol The 2 weeks I had off work were simply based on using up the damn entitlement up. I get 2 weeks every 6 months currently at my spot until April 2009 when the new law kicks in. I dont need any more holidays at present. (But Its nice to be away from the daunting work place.)Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -

I'm so envious Lucy! I keep saying to myself that I will stop spending and increase my savings but there is too much temptation at the moment. (Damn sales!)
Being taken out for dinner tonight :jand after that no spending this weekend apart from Tesco and coffees with the girls. By posting here I hope to take on the straight and narrow!MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000

Hi All
Definitely agree with Driving_Soon's sentiment that this site does indeed ROCK. I've gained so many tips from it already and hope I've been able to impart some words of wisdom along the way too.
Great to see some others who have newly joined us - welcome aboard! :T
Tell you a funny story. Went to my building society other day. Handed what I thought was the full amount over the counter and the person behind the counter who reminded me of the guy off the Halifax advert in some ways, prompted me for the full amount! I smiled and said 'oh, have I short changed you??!!!' and passed the other half of the notes (reasonably large sum) over the counter to him. He retorted 'it must be that innocent looking face you have!', and smiled, lol :rotfl: :rotfl: Perhaps I should use my innocent looking face more often - I might get away with it next time....!!
Have a great weekend all...that's if I don't blog you over the weekend lol!

Good evening lovely people!!!
Just posting to show off my new shiny sig with beautiful percentages.
Aww, McSaver!!! I'm glad you had a nice break though.
Thank you for sharing my excitement DS - tis really sweet of you. I didn't quite get the salary I expected, was slightly short, so I managed to save 72% of income - which I am very proud of. My damn employers deduct my sick day, even though it was the stress of working so long days (8am til 9pm on the really tough days (Iovertime rates)) that made me ill in the first place!!!
How is your new job going too? When is your first payday? I bet you're even more excited than I was yesterday!
Cookie9 - the way to not spend is to get your bf to pay for everything! After looking through my month's spending, I've worked it out how I managed to spend so little. Because I spent quite a lot of time feeling under the weather, my lovely fella treated me to a handbag, a nice meal out, trip to the cinema.. I had all my normal treats and socialising... just didn't spend anything.Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012
