Does Martin ever look at this thread because it's a particularly good one? Perhaps I'll get a personal response... :money:

Well done on the job Driving Soon.
Holidays are taking their toll on my ability to save. Oh well I do get cash back on my credit card spending so that will go into my Christmas fund. At least I have a small pay rise next month so will increase my standing order to account of this.
Need boots for the winter but holding off until next week when I can use my 20% discount at Office. ( Look out for this months Glamour magazine which has lots of discount vouchers in it.)MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000

Very true. Thanks everyone - has made me feel better.
Going to the Maldives. Certainly coudn't have afforded to go there without some savings behind me and better to do it now while I can I think!
Should have got paid on Friday since it's a bank holiday today, but money is still showing as pending so think I should be able to put around £400 away this month.0 -
...Hi Wanno..if you can I would try and use the full cash isa allowance asap as this is tax free (it is £3600 for this tax year 08/09). Also I think interest rates will fall at the end of this year/through 09 so you could look at fixed rate products. On the spending side do a detailed analysis of ALL items of expenditure month by month for the year ahead and see what you can cut out ( things like newspapers-use liabery!, make own sandwichs for lunch, lotto tickets, drinks in pub!) For large items like gas/elec, phone, net/tv etc you could look at the comparision sites to see if you can get a better deal. Open a Co operative current account plus and pay in min £800 a month for three months & they will pay you £100. (you can withdraw straight away- see link on this site)...best of luck with your target....ed0

Hi Ed, that was such a thoughtful post you sent to me and soooooo full of useful tips. Thanks! I am putting 250 pounds in a month at mo to my ISA, which will obviously give me a total of 3,000 at end of the 1 yr term. Can I put the remaining 600 pounds in as extra at any point during the year? What fixed rate product vehicles might you suggest I could also put my money into? Yes, I do need to do a more detailed analysis of my expenditure which I shall start soon. I actually try not to buy newspapers now and read most of them online - Independent if I'm feeling sensible and don't want all the tabloid guff and The Mail/Mail on Sunday if I do! :rotfl: I must try and take sarnies to the office more especially as sandwiches are so expensive, could freeze them ready made too and store them in those plastic seal-fresh locking boxes you can get now. I do have the odd splurge on the lottery ticket, sometimes the Euromillions on a Friday but I know the odds are soooooooo not in my favour, I should now (I studied A level statistics). As for drinks in pub Mmmmmm:rolleyes: I do like the occasional social night out but I will cope - I'll let everybody buy me a drink, and hope they are all too rat-assed to notice I've been left out of loop of paying for them
!!! The utility bills as you mention are the biggies and I think I will shop around to see if there are better deals out there on the comparison sites. I was intrigued to learn that the Co operative current account plus is giving you 100 pounds after three months, I might try opening one of those. They can use my 800 pounds for three months and then I'll take back an eighth of that for my trouble...:T Thanks again for all the great tips and I will think up some for you soon.
Best regards

I've had a really good month, had a bonus last month from work and have moved base and gained a bit of a pay rise too! I turned down a new job this month that would have paid me more but I think i'd have been bored by it so I decided that i'd rather earn less and be happy. My isa is now full up which i'm very happy about, and i've got enough set aside already for next months halifax reg saver. I'm looking at my spreadsheet with pride!!!
Well done DS on the new job btw, I worked in a pub when I was 18 and it is one of the best jobs i've ever had, loads of fun, but would you believe it's put me off drinking a lot ever since!0 -
Well done Paul!
I'm having a good month too - my P&L is currently showing I've only spent £277 this month! Have not yet been paid, but if my net wages and savings interest calculations are correct, this will mean I'll have saved 74% of my income this month! Can't wait until pay day!Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

74%?! Wow! Go you
Unfortunately, I'm having something of a liquidity problem and may have to dip in to my savingsSad times!
Actually getting quite stressed, I haven't heard from the SLC so I may have to live on my saving whilst at uni for a few weeks. It's a pain because I really don't want to take anything out of my ISA.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Well saving money has become the most used term according to a survey carried out on people working in financial related sector. When it comes to savings, I usually save about £500 a month across the entire household. A week ago,I saved £32.15 on grocery/outings with the family.I work on behalf of MS, however, my views do not necessarily reflect theirs, I am not acting as a representative of the company while on this forum and I cannot warrant that what I say is 100% correct in all cases.0

Don't ask how I've done it... I have no idea. Complete fluke. I just haven't spent any money, and it wasn't exactly a conscious thing... Wish I could unveil my secret to this month :P I'd reach my goal in no time.Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012
