Vicky, don't be so hard on yourself! Life is for living, even for us savings nuts. £1500 is better than nothing - and better than most, I'd wager, were I a gambler and not a saver!
Hope you have a lovely time that creates memories to treasure forever - you'll soon catch up on what you've not saved!Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

Very depressed just now.
Haven't been on this thread for a while as I knew my savings hadn't been going well after forking out for a holiday of a life time that I am due to go on next month. But I have just worked out how badly I have done!
Since January this year I have only managed to save a grand total of £1500! Terrible!!
Oh well after the holiday it will be back to the real strict saving!
But, think of it this way ... You are not in debt!! alot of people can't say that!
Enjoy the Holiday!0 -
Update on July: 70.78% of our income saved.
An exceptional month because we did get annual work bonuses and money back for stuff we'd already paid out that we knew we would put straight into savings.
August is looking on track to be about 60% but we are on hols for 3 weeks so that could knock a big dent in that.
Our aim now is to achieve £100k savings (although we still haven't identified what for!) - we set an original target on this as Sept 2011 and our goal is how many months we can beat that target by.
Monthly targets:
Save all DH's overtime and expenses
Save £300 each to ISAs
Save £250 each to a Reg Savings a/c
Save £250 from household expenses budget
Save all of my disposable incomeMFW Challenge (Tgt Date Nov 07): ACHIEVED FEB 07!
Mthly Savings (Tgt 60% of Inc): Average 41.67% (but we have just paid for a new kitchen!)
Savings Goal £500k (Target Date 50th B'Day Nov 17): 30.41%0 -

DH and I are retired wrinklies. I save £250 every 4 weeks (state pension paid 4-weekly). DH saves approx £200 every 4 weeks, depending on what he has left over, sometimes more than £200. I save first, he saves last.
He's just withdrawn £1000 for our holiday in Germany next month. I'll use my annuity payment which arrives every September and I'll put £1000 of mine to his.
This trip up the Rhine valley is something we've talked about for the last few years. We've had other good holidays, North America etc, but this is something we're really looking forward to, especially 5 days in a spa hotel at Friedrichshaven.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

The MSE gods are looking down on me with disapprobation after a week of extravagant spending, including an open return rail journey
So to appease them I have made a sacrifice to them, Norton Antivirus, which was pressuring me to pay £54.95 for a year's protection. Quite frankly that's rediculous when there is free software on the market. Just downloaded AVG which is free and apparently better!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
hey all, great thread here - inspiring.
I'm currently at £5k, now setting my targets at £10k minimum by this time next year. I'm 21, a uni student on a year in industry, and already used to living on a tight budget - which will help significantly with this plan! lol. As for why, I'd love to be able to afford the deposit on a house by the time I'm 25 (or younger).- i read somewhere that the average needed at the moment is ~£17k
The Plan:
£3600 straight into a Barclays cash ISA (6.25%)
£1400 straight into Halifax Web Saver, to drip feed and use if i need it quick (5.8% AER)
£250/m into Barclays Reg Saver, the max allowed (7.75% AER)
£150/m into Halifax Reg Saver (7% AER)
£75-100/m extra into the Halifax Reg if I have enough energy to keep a second job going
The Perfect Total:
~£11k + interest :j
Of course, if anyone has any suggestions to help then please share0 -

Best thing to do is start up a holiday savings account with for example a £100 standing order into it each month. Just give it a few months and you will always have enough to spend on a holiday without putting a dent in your long term savings.Save save save!!0 -
My £500 has gone winging its way to my Halifax monthly saver account - not bad when my spare income came in at £45.59 - have now managed 3 payments of the full £500 , just another 31 days to find the next one....I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0
