We managed to put £200 into our house savings this month. Things are a bit tight as we've just had our baby and my maternity allowance hasn't come through yet. 5 weeks late and counting... I'm planning on saving it anyway but i'll feel better when it's safely in my bank account!
We also managed to put 21.58 (from our budget) and 109.65 (cash back from Quidco) into our Christmas account so that means Christmas is pretty much paid for, yay!
Baby is doing well this month too. He has got £179 in his account plus £65 in cheques clearing. His money box is filling up too and he's got £9.55 bless his little heart.
Anyway, will update when i've got more savings news. Good luck everyone!

    Hi all,

I have saved another £500 into our ISA for a deposit this month, now we have around £18k.

To motivate us even more I have set up a blog where I will put all sorts of money saving ideas and news etc - thought folks here might want to take a look and save into your favourites if you like what I have started with:

  • Jak, what is the name of your baby? (I'm so nosy) Many congratulations on becoming a mother :) And good luck to you. I hope it's rewarding and challenging and wonderful for you.

EagerLearner - I've added it to my bookmarks! Thank you for posting that, I am always keen to read other's tips on money saving.

With regards to that BBC article you linked to - that's very scary! I am in the fortunate position whereby I could survive 10-12 months on my savings, if I maintained my current spending level, or 15-18 if I cut back (which I would in those circumstances, of course), but it's terrifying to think that some people could last no more than 11 days, if the worst happened.

  • Hi All,

Further to my last post, I am considering buying some shares in the future with say possibly up to 2,000 pounds of my savings. I hear it is the right time to buy GKN shares at the moment, for example, which seem to be doing well. I don't particularly wish to be charged too expensive a commisson by an independent stockbroker so has anyone got any advice they can offer me. I am aware you can also trade online or through banks(???)...

There again, if there are any of those out there who think it would be better to hold onto my savings, please also let me know!!! I know how precious savings are to us regular savers...

    Best regards

    Money Angel

  • Ooh, brave of you. I'm far too cautious to invest my savings.

  • Grrrr! I feel very angry at the moment! It always seems the people who are wise enough to save don't get nothing and the people that just spend and spend get all the help they want!

I have tried to apply for some adult learning grant for when i go to college in september, it will give me £30 a week, but they say i have too much savings so I am unable to get it! but if i spent all my money on booze and partying like all my mates then i would of been able to get it ..

    Crazy!
