I used Confetti too - the message board was fab. We got married a few years back - the dress was handmade to a mix of 3 styles I picked out, fitted and I chose all the materials and detail finishes. Having had a seriously 'Pretty Woman' moment at Prenuptia, I thought 'no way' as everything was so pompous and expensive (they looked at me in horror when I told them my wedding was in 8 months time, and didn't consider my £800 budget much to go on). This way I spent £300 on my own custom dress by using a dress maker... :j
Got handmade soaps from ebay as favours for the ladies, and small JD bottles for the men as favours. We designed our own table names and placeholders, printed our own cards etc.
Plus we asked politely for vouchers rather than gifts as we'd already lived together for a few years... and we also went on a 2 week honeymoon cruise. Most we spent was £6k inc all wedding expenses, honeymoon and spending.
My advice... go with what the woman wants... she'll always regret it if not, meaning you will always regret itMFW #185

I have just watched all my DDs and SO's go out and managed to save about £700 this month. I've updated my total. Woo.
My total feels tiny in comparison to what some of you on here have saved, but at least I'm on the right track now.
To those getting married, Congratulations! :beer:How long til pay day?

Hi,
£700 is great! It will soon add up. I don't know about everyone else but my savings were joint between me and bf.
I am getting a little bit fed up with all this saving now and would love to go shopping! BUT....it is really motivating seeing your total go up....(even tho in reality I am in debt still!!)[0 -

I got married last May and we had an initial budget of £8,000. In total we spent just over £6,500.
I looked at the Confetti website and worked out what I wanted to spend the money on. Then I divided this total by the months left to the wedding, opened up a high interest account and put this amount in every month. Whenever I got spare money that would go into this account. We got engaged in October 2005 and were married in May 2007. Apart from £2,000 from my parents and step-parents we saved this all ourselves. At the time we both were on low wages (I only worked 3 hours a week!!), but it's all in the budgeting and not getting carried away with the little things.
Don't get me wrong, we had a fantastic day and had 80 guests to a 3-course wedding breakfast in a 4* hotel. If I could I would do it all over again
ps: Men have one role in a wedding - to turn up :rotfl:
Thanks for the link :T

First of all congrats to ChelseaBlue, that's a pretty awesome target to reach.
My target is 20k and I'm nearly there, I got paid today and saved £500. I've basically got a new housemate who pays weekly in cash so I use that for all my partying and food shopping. The money in my bank account pays for mortgage and bills only, anything that is left goes into my cash isa, holiday savings account and a short term account for things I want to buy.Save save save!!0 -
* Savings Update - April 2008 *
I have been a bit naughty again this month but it was worth it in the end. With me winning the majority of the cash I lost around 2 months agoand all the overtime for the last month has put myself back into good shape for the year once again. The amount of overtime has dropped at work a little so there wont be nowhere near as much as the £1,800 I have managed to save this month.
So all in all an excellent month for my savings but not as far as keeping the gambling gremlins at bay but I havent bet for a week so im fineI have even went to the extent where I have lost Interest in playing.
The Amounts I quote each month I save does NOT include any interest I earn on my savings - The Percentage Has Also Been UpdatedI have smashed through silver already with it moving up 19.4%
Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
Well, car insurance saved and paid for. So short term saving are at a resounding £50 now. Need to concentrate on getting this built up again in time for my holiday in August.
Long-term is ticking over, I've just set up a direct debit to transfer £100/month to my ISA and I also have my regular saver which is drip-feeding £50/month. Anything spare heads towards by short-term savings. It seems to be working well so far0 -
yea i think id like to hear the average % that people save a month?0
