    Hi all,

Can I join in? Some of the amounts being saved here are amazing, well done!! Unfortunatley I'll be a small fry saver but would be good to have somewhere to log it or incentivise myself as I'm generally terrible with money. Having finally gotten out of debt, I'm aiming for enough savings for DIsneyworld next year.

  • I've been reading this thread for a while and thought it was about time I joined you all. We (by that I mean DH and me) are hoping to save at least 10% of our income in the next financial year and each subsequent year, not counting any interest. We are both in our early fifties with two teenage daughters who both want to go to University and we want to help them so that they come out with little or no debt at the end. We are not extravagant so are able to save more than most.
So far we have cash ISA's from last year with the maximum in and I have £1300 from the previous year. We each save £250 a month in regular savers so that we can put the full amount into cash ISA's again this year. Hubby also has SAYE scheme with his employers and he saves £125 each month in that. Child benefit I save into another account so that is another £120.
If I can save anything in addition to this via surveys, coupons, bogofs, ebay, etc, then I will add it to the pot. Off now to update my signature.

Have managed to save a total of £24000 in the year to date, having used up £12000 of it to pay off my stoozed money as it was nearing its 0% end date. So the money that I had borrowed six months back (at 0% of course) is now in effect mine !!!

Given the excellent track record, I am tempted to set myself a target of £50000 for the year, but then I think I am being greedy...

The problem is, I don't know what I am saving for... most of my expenses are paid by my company on actuals and the rest come from my monthly interest income...

    Cheers

Hey Stardust, another saver for Disney here! I can't save lots either however I squirrel away my £2 coins, change, small bit of ebay/amazon and maybe an annual boot fair and it does grow eventually. My friend and I are cruising Disney next January, all paid for by our 'squirrelling' over the last 2-3 years. Savings in place for the next one already! Good luck to you too.

Does this not depend on how much you earn?

I am going to be getting a big payrise soon that will almost double my salary, so therefore I can save that extra money
  • finally got to £50K!!!!!

    Congrats Chelseablue!

It does feel good when you have savings doesn't it! I got to about £34,000 before it all had to be spent on the building work! Can't wait to pay off everything and save again.....ooh and start paying extra off the mortgage.

Congrats to you, a very tidy sum indeed!

I've somehow managed to scrape together the full £300 I'd aimed to save during this past month, not long at all before I get to £5,000 now :D .

I'll be paid again soon, will try to save at least £250 this month. I've been gradually easing myself into the "piggybanking" method of budgeting as per Martin's article on the subject, where you save regularly into a number of accounts for occasional expenses. I am now going to start putting aside £40 or £50 per month for holidays (usually a number of cheap UK weekend breaks for me), hence the slightly lower savings target while I adjust.
Never mind the house prices, I'm saving a deposit.
    [STRIKE]£20,000[/STRIKE] £15,100.82 still needed - 24.50% saved so far!
Buying and moving costs: £3-5k - will save this after the £20k
Aiming to buy my own place by the end of 2011
