On a more mundane note, just to suppliment Report Investors list, Britannia are doing a RegSave @ 7.5% for 12 months. I currently subscribe to RegSaves to the tune of £2.6k/ month but the problem is my wages are only about half of that. It is possible with perfect timing and a decent spreadsheet.

I was just reading through old posts on this thread... and came across this (on page 2)... How on earth do you manage that Eddie (if you're still around)? I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding it or what... but I'm always after top tips for saving, so would be keen to learn what he means by perfect timing!

Just wanted to say that I'm mega proud of myself, because last August I started saving properly, starting small at £35 a month, and increasing the amount I save monthly, so I know how much I can save whilst not missing out on anything. (I've also kept a diary of all my spending, so I know exactly where I spend my money, and this has also had the effect that I spend less - I know how much I've treated myself in the last few weeks, so I'm less inclined to feel hard done by and go shopping!)

I'm now in the habit of saving a minimum of £395 a month, which is a very big chunk (to me) of my take home pay - about 40% - yet my lifestyle doesn't feel any different to how I was last summer, when I spent every penny! I also save my mileage expenses, any overtime, Quidco earnings... in fact anything extra, so have built up around £4500.

I don't post much, but I have been lurking and reading a lot for ages, so I'd really like to thank everyone for turning me into a complete money nerd. I'm so grateful to you all for showing me the error of my ways - spending without thought for tomorrow.

Hi, I'm basically just trying to save as much as I can...I guess to pay for uni fees. So far I've got around £1.5k in my ISA, and working full-time next year and have set myself a target of £10k!

After working full time for nearlly 2 years after leaving college, I've managed to save around 16k! I'm about to go back into education, and my Income will be 1/4 of what i got while working, but I still hope to add a little bit to my savings when I can, so when i get a Bonus from my course, instead of spending it! It will go straight into my savings :D .. I want 20k! but I'm not sure how long this is going to take me ... ecpesh with driving lessons costing so much and me failing so much Haha!

Driving lessons, and tests are horribly expensive :( I failed many times, and the cost pretty much crippled me. Then the cost of the insurance and petrol as soon as I finally passed!

I wish you lots of luck - with the driving and your savings goal! I'm sure you will manage both. :)

    * Savings Update - May 2008 *

Its an average month for me as predicted just the £600 saved this month which is better than nothing I suppose. I should be getting close to reaching GOLD next month as well.

    The Percentage has been updated.

Hi everyone, I'm saving too :) I'm in a very fortunate position, in that I'm a student but get the full grant, plus loan, a bursary from the uni, all due to my low income household and my mum helps me too. Don't worry I'm very grateful for all of it and take nothing for granted.

My plan is to have £10,000 saved in my ISA when I graduate (my first year is just coming to a close). What for exactly? Well, to travel a bit first. I've seen practically nothing of the world - never even been to London - so I'd like to do that before I'm stuck with taxes and repayments etc. Also as a start towards a house deposit. And, God forbid, in case I can't get a job and need to manage for a while after I graduate.

Got £2700 in there now, I can save £3,450 more this year, £3,600 next year, and the rest should be made up by the interest. Stuggled to save more this year, but next year will be a lot cheaper for me since I'm paying much less rent.

    So that's me :)

    Payday wahoo!!

Another £350 into my natwest isa, that's 20k I have on the dot now :)

I've decided to pay off half my mortgage in 20 months time(when my fix runs out) so will stick around on this thread until then ;)

My aim is to become mortgage free by the time I'm 33.

    Happy saving everyone.

  • Well, thanks to a (well deserved) holiday break in Cornwall I wasn't able to put away as much as I wanted.

Only managed about £520 which I know isn't bad but I got a bonus which seems to have disappeared into the ether which was going to top it all up.

Well, I'm at £1830 (might just chuck another £170 into it to bring it to a round figure if I can jig my finances a bit). In fact, I just have done that well, taken it to a nice £2000 now. Feel much better with that figure (must have mild OCD with round figures).

Happy savings people - my house dream is getting ever so slightly bigger (and I do mean every so slightly  ). Loving this board for the inspiration and just to be a bit nosey to see all the different things we're all aiming for!!

    Keep it up. :T
