Got confirmation in the post last night that the cashback paid back into our credit card account earlier this month was £229.04.

Not a bad saving considering we made some big purchases over the last few months that we paid using the card, but cleared the balance each month so that we didn't have to pay interest.

P.S. If you don't mind me asking, what is your career? I think I remember you saying you were a civil servant but wondered what your job actually was.

Do you usually transfer the money out (are you even allowed??) or do you just leave it on the credit card to cover any future spending?

I've been saving since I was really young, but got serious about it when I started my first full-time job 10 years ago. I started off by saving at least £500 a month, upped that to £800 a month as my salary went up and now I save at least £1300 a month :D

Forgive my ignorance Suzey as I haven't looked back through the thread over the year but how did you manage to save that amount?

That is an amazing amount saved there.

I've only had the card since September and haven't tried transferring the money before. This came straight off the bill which was huge this month but I had the money in savings anyway so I didn't have to pay any interest.

  • I work for my dad. He owns a wholesale bakery. Am like a confectioner in the morning, and office in the afternooon (telesales etc) I am learning the ins and outs of the business, as it is a potential future career.
My dad wants to pass it down as well. I am lucky really. But i really do want to make it big!! i am saving for a house for investment purposes rather than pleasure.

    Thanks

Nice one Tom, great savings goals achieved really quickly. Good luck with the property investing too.

    Hi all,

Almost clear of credit card debt, and have just applied for a savings account at the Yorkshire Building Society, ready to take all my money after the debt is clear (hopefully by the end of this month). Of course, I'll fill my ISA first :)
