    Morning all,

I've been sat at the back of the class wondering what on earth a wep key was :o just re read cheris post & realised it's the long bar codey number thing on the sticker at the back of the hub

*removes dunces hat' & leaves the corner :rotfl:

Yep, I had to enter that but in the meantime rude hub had got bored & put itself to sleep, hence the 5 phone calls & eventually turning it off & back on again.

However, I still havent sussed out how to connect my phone up to lappie so I can take pics of stuff & load onto ebay :(

*places dunces hat back on & retreats to the corner again*

Poor you! I've no idea how to link a phone and a lappie, but a camera, yes - my previous camera had a plug and play cable, with this new one I had to buy a memory card reader - they're about £10 in the shops, I got one for £3 off Amazon.
Flyin_Fresian is with Virgin so might be worth contacting her for help as she got her new laptop up and running last year.

Did they send you a new box/subsription paperwork when you moved or did you just take everything with you.

With BT we have a key code on the moden hub then a separate credit card sized card with a password on it. I know BT can talk you through connecting to a special site even when you aren't on line IYSWIM, to sort oout passwords etc, fingers crossed VIRGIN can do the same.

is there any way to get the settings from the old laptop?

Actually, I got bored of being so pathetic about the security code, and got up to look at the back of the router, as everyone is mentioning that, and there's a number that begins S/N, which I'm betting means Security Number, *and* there's a pin - so I'll give that a go before I winge at anybody else :D, thanks YAAHM. I'll get used to that in time .... do you have a fave acronym?

Better scoot - accounts to open, things to sell :D have a good one.

Lula - your phone should have a another cable with it which will plug from phone to puter (no idea what the phone end of that bit of the cable will look like) but that will go to the computer via the other end of the cable, which is normally a usb type end and you do it that way. (on mine anyway)

If you bought it - its maybe in the box? I cunningly charge MY phone like that too when i've got it plugged into the pc.

Depends on the type of phone and if you got it new or not - if not you'll get one on ebay/local shop.

    Might help?

Agian apology if I talk carp!

Like everyone else has mentioned, if you want to connect wirelessly, you will need the SSID also known as "Network Name" (it's broadcast and appears when you "scan" for wireless devices, but you need to know which device is your and which devices are your neighbours'), and a WEP key which will be somewhere in the documentation you received with the router.

If it isn't in the documentation, then you can get on to the router and set these things yourself.

However in order to do this, you'll need a username and password, which will be on the same bit of paper that the SSID and the WEP key are on...

    That means serial number.

Hi Pippi - thanks for the phone help, I do have the cable & have plugged it in to the right hole & lappie makes the right plingk noise, but it doesnt go any further than that.

I probably need to insert the cd that came with phone too *yawn* & load that first. That sounds more likley each time I think of it.

I really need to do it as am due a phone upgrade in March & have no interest in getting i-phone variety just want one with a fabby camera so I dont need to buy separate one :D.

And how far do you want it to go? All the way? Have you looked in "My Computer" to see if it has made an appearance?

Camera phones are crap in comparison to real cameras. It's all to do with the optics - the bits of glass that stick out the front. Running around a phone with decent optics stuck in your pocket would make it look like you were permanently happy to see people.

All the way baby :D, although I have a confession; my name is Lula & I'm not a pc. Will get a round tuit one day. It's on my list of things to do when I absolutely cant think of anything else to do

Previous problem solved; I'll just buy a new camera & it will just plug in & work :T I was saving my Boots points for a camera ... then there was an 'incident' with a bottle of perfume which wiped them all out , hey ho. My boss recommends a lumix, just had a look on amazon & there are loads of them sp is about £90 moving swiflty up to about £240 . I'll probably just go for the cheapest pink one :rotfl:

ETA - I'm always happy to see people, but being a girl I dont feel the need to show it ;)
