It never occurred to me that costs would vary locally :( I'd have paid attention to it before now if I'd realised :( I've got housey things to do today - that voile curtain, the smoke alarm, the router - but I'll be on it on Monday ....

Shame your Wilkos went, Lula! Fancy a day out to ours? :rotfl:

Happy pottering...mmm I like that phrase.
  • KC - rather than keep messing with the router ring the internet comapny up, some laptops have a different security level set in them and you need to amend it to match it to the router. They should be able to talk it through with you. I had to do this with mine.

Also - a friend always said her new laptop wasn't wireless as it didn't just connect, she didn't realise that there was a switch on the lappy to turn the wireless on and off as you need it. She is a bright lady just not at all techinical. So I'm not being cheeky, its just a thought before you ring them :kisses3:.

I did that exact same thing with my works laptop when I first got it. They talked me through everything and we still couldnt get it to work so I had to drive 40 miles to take it into an office. When I got there the guy just brushed his hand over the top of the keyboard and lights came on and hey presto wireless connected. I felt like such an idiot!

I rang them a few days ago YAAHM (oh, that looks like yawn ) anyway they got me to test the ethernet cable, and then told me I'd have to join a special service for £10 a month to get anything further out of them. And people wonder why Virgin Media are hated .....

Something like ... I had another go today, found a "connect" button within the Control Panel somewhere, with 3 active wireless connections. Now I need to type in the network security key, whatever that is. Honestly, I lose the will to live going through this stuff, this is *exactly* why (well, part of why) I've taken so long to set the bleeping thing up. I hate it!

I'll phone Virgin on Monday to get this key. They'll refuse to give it to me, of course, and then we'll be on to the next merrygoround.

Right now, I don't care! I've had a glass of wine, and slagged off Primeval for its *pathetic* chase scenes and all sorts of things, and I'm just coming in here to go :hello::hello::hello:

    Hello KC -

never watched that Primeval - I've been with Dave watching Red Dwarf reruns- it's completely bonkers, but I love it so much :D.

Cant help with tintertnet stuff I'm afraid, I had all sorts of hassle getting my hub up & running, spoke to about 10 different peeps before finally getting hold of a the guy who honestly did suggest 'turning it off & then on again'. It worked :rotfl:

You know what, when I have some legitimate real money to spend, I might just take a wander over your way to have a day in Wilkos' :D

Have no idea where HH is, but as Wol is only an hour s drive away, I'm guessing it cant be much further - off for a google ...

You probably need either a WEP key or password for your wireless router KC.

That is usually something you set up yourself, rather than Virginontheridiculous.

You probably dont need Virgin. You should have a WEP number on your hub. That is the security key that you need usually. It is a long list of numbers and sometimes letters and can usually be found at the bottom of the hub box

Never watched it so cant comment. However can you send them to mine. Had a TV Investigator visit today to make sure that I am telling the truth about not owning a TV - Good job I was out because he would have gotten the sharp edge of my tongue.

Thanks Maty, thanks Cheri! Thats good news, then - I'll have a go tomorrow briefly, tho I'm off to my sister's after about 10, so not too long.

Lula - that would be brill, and yes, the direct route is only about half an hour from Wol. And I'm further west (which may or may not be a help ... I'm not sure!).

Cup of tea now :coffee: and I'm trying to tell my stomach I don't want anything else to eat..... a losing battle on a Saturday night.
