ETA - I'm always happy to see people, but being a girl I dont feel the need to show it

But instead you feel the need to advertise it's cold. Twice. Blokes aren't *that* interested in the weather you know..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

However in order to do this, you'll need a username and password, which will be on the same bit of paper that the SSID and the WEP key are on...
That means serial number.
That was the number that I used but mine is a BT router. It worked fine. When I open the airport I have a few listed so I just select mine which is the only BT one in the list.,but I would imagine that if there are a few virgin ones there would be a way to tell which is yours. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. My airport shows a few different networks in the area as well as other virgin ones, but my virgin one is at the top of the list with a tick next to it.0

Like everyone else has mentioned, if you want to connect wirelessly, you will need the SSID also known as "Network Name" (it's broadcast and appears when you "scan" for wireless devices, but you need to know which device is your and which devices are your neighbours'), and a WEP key which will be somewhere in the documentation you received with the router.
If it isn't in the documentation, then you can get on to the router and set these things yourself.

I have no idea what any of that means
She looks interesting! Very detailed recipes, but I'm hopeful, thanks Cheery.Cheery_Daff wrote: »When you get your internet up and running KC, I came across this and thought you might like a mooch

I have to go to the airport :rotfl::eek: this is getting ridiculous. That was the number that I used but mine is a BT router. It worked fine. Instead of playing with my camera and my sister's computer yesterday, for most of the time I was either navvying to get rid of carp in the garage or driving to a far distant land (Kent) to buy a microwave
so I was quite tired in the evening, to put it mildly - just lay here and recovered
Today its the usual - phone calls, the router, insurance.
Oh, and the integral smoke alarm didn't work - its very old, and tho I was charging it for 10 hours yesterday, it objected strongly, very strongly, so I've left it plugged in and at the first opportunity I'm recycling it to the tip, grrr. I have another load of techie recycling to go already. No wonder the landfill sites are almost full, given how much we *have* and how much we have to throw away

Oh dear the laptop is proving a little less straightforward than we hoped! I'm sure you'll get it sorted though.
I'm clearly not awake as I was wondering why you had carp in your garage.. and then I realised you were just being polite

Yep
:D:D
Tho I don't have a garage any more - it was hers - and the number of carp flicking their tails about in there has to be seen to be believed :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
KC - the tip in BH has great electrical/electronic recycling facilities, so hopefully not much of it will end up in landfill.
(Lawd I'm such a font of thrilling local knowledge aren't I......no asking about local pubs, clubs and things to do, I know about dentists and the tip!!)0 -
And I'm glad you know about this stuff, KK! The issue for me is access - you wouldn't *believe* how hard it is to get to that tip on public transport. And carrying it is another issue, with arthritis

Anyway, list isn't going too badly - 2 hours paid work this afternoon, so just working on that right now, going to have a cup of tea and carry on .....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Aaah, I hadn't factored in that you don't have a car. It's horrible to drive to up that long driveway, so lugging carp by foot *shudder*0

(cough) my sister helps me with tip visits all the time (cough)
Don't feel too sorry for me - its just organising it
