Ah-ha, it was just I would offer to help, so long as you do the carrying, I'm a wimp but have a reasonable sized car

Yay to helpful families! Wish mine lived closer....*sigh*0 -
RE the smoke alarm...the local fire brigade fit and supply them for free and that's available to everybody you don't have to be on benefits.
Sorry the laptop still isn't connected.0 -

.... and they replace them when the battery goes, as there are no user serviceable parts(?) we ended up taking ours down and hiding it under a cushion when the battery was going as it kept beeping and we couldn't replace it.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Don't worry KK, its no problem really. As to families living closer. Its weird (but wonderful :j) to have her only an hour away even by bus, tho thats only since I moved here last August. Considering we've both lived all over England and Western Europe, and that we come from Liverpool, its *amazing* that she's that close!RE the smoke alarm...the local fire brigade fit and supply them for free and that's available to everybody you don't have to be on benefits.
Is that even for a non pensioner, Taxi? I must check that - there is one fitted, but its *very* old, tho truth to tell I haven't even tested it yet. I did buy a normal one last year when we had a convo about fire alarms, but thats still in its box
so I'm kind of glad I didn't fit it at the old place :rotfl::o:rotfl::o
Sorry the laptop still isn't connected.
Me too
I haven't even tried today - I wasted quite a bit of time this morning
You were spying on me last night! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It kept beeping every minute because it wouldn't charge, its so old, and I could hear it in my bedroom, even after I'd put it in the bathroom and had 3 closed doors between it and me. So I wrapped it up in a throw from the sofa, but because it was then short of breath, it started screaming. At something like 8pm  So eventually I plugged it in again, and switched it on (to stop it beeping) but took the lightbulb out - so now its difficult to see my way to the loo downstairs  I wish I could write like Lula, I could do justice to it thengilligansyle wrote: ».... and they replace them when the battery goes, as there are no user serviceable parts(?) we ended up taking ours down and hiding it under a cushion when the battery was going as it kept beeping and we couldn't replace it.

i wish i could scream as well, i've got MIL flu and can't breathe!
When my fire alarm kept going off because of toast or something i usually take it off the wall and stick it upside down on the chair whilst telling it to shut up!
Now the fire alarm doesn't go off but my cat has taken to crying and trying to escape the living room when she smells something burning! strangely she wants to get in the bedroom she doesn't scarper out the cat flap.0 -
My parrot now imitates the smoke alarm since it took to going off as soon as I put the toaster on irrespective of whether I burnt the toast or not. The problem is Coco only has to hear the toaster being plugged in and he does the smoke alarm. What a screech.
In my last house one Sunday afternoon there was a knock at the door and there were some rather lovely firemen offering to check me out (oops sorry I meant check out my fire alarms) for free. When I announced I did not have any they whipped theirs out and offered to stick them up! Well that was an offer I couldn't refuse. ;)He even brought his own ladder. Needless to say they were more interested in Moo than me
. They even offered to come back and check that my batteries hadnt run out in a couple of weeks time. I made sure that I was in that Sunday too.
I am not a pensioner KC, nor on any kinds of benefits. In my last job I worked in partnership with all of the major emeergency services and they have certain targets to meet and they usually meet some of them by working in conjunction with Local Authorities to provide fire alarms free of charge. Just give your local station a call and they will come out and sort it out. Not sure about your authority but the one I worked with even had timelines by which to respond to a request. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. KC, was drawn here by the fire alarm chat. Mine chose to start wailing one night after I'd been out on the sauce with one of my FWB's. We woke up horribly hungover to this horrible sound. As my bedroom door was shut I assumed it was outside. He was crashing about and there was this noise and I thought I was going mad! I pulled it out of the ceiling and had to get the wee engineer man to fix it when he came round before Xmas.'The road to a friends house is never long'0

It just goes to show, the old comforts "Do you smoke after sex?" "I don't know, I've never looked." have disappeared in this age of electronic monitoring...I pulled it out of the ceiling
