KC - personally I loved the books but can only comment on the 2 films I've seen, where the acting was, by and large, not up to much. Or at least I loved the books until the hype kicked in, if that makes any sense. I think because we found the books early, I somehow felt that they'd been stolen from me.
Paid work and phone calls!
And cleaning blinds - this visit has given you the motivation to really motor through that list, maybe then you can do the stuff you *want* to do, rather than what you *need* to do.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

I completely understand that, Gill
And you've hit the nail on the head too, with the 2nd bit, about doing what I *want*, after, rather than what I need - the focus is my mother's visit, true, but the underlying bit is to get as much as possible of this ridiculous stuff done before the anniversary of when I moved in (18th August!!!) so that I can live the life I want, rather than scrubbing away the dirt that actually belongs to other people, for instance, or *establishing* the garden. I'll still have more on the garden to do, of course, and I have to have the plumber in for the bathroom, and I won't manage that before the anniversary, but frankly the bathroom's so tiny, that won't be much. And I can stay on the top floor out of the way2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I can really understand that but you should remember what you HAVE got done in the year. :T:T:T. I can recall some pretty major stuff and I'm just an occasional 'visitor'. Do a TADA list to cheer you along when things seem slow and pat yourself on the back - being careful not to dislocate your shoulder. :rotfl::rotfl:
No garden is ever 'finished' so don't beat yourself up about that. You're doing great. :T:TBut how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -

I'm no exception
Love the patting-and-not-dislocating:D
You know, whenever I try to write about "finishing the garden" I try to remember what you just posted, that its never finished .... its *growing*, for heaven's sakes! Its more a question of getting the bones of the place the way I want them, in the house and the garden - if the bones are done, then any improvements are comparatively small scale, and much more manageable, and maintenance is much easier. Thats the goal, anyway :j
Thank you for reminding me of the ta-das!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Thank you for reminding us all of that Tricia!
So in the spirit of patting myself on the back about the garden...

a little essay of what got done in the ever-growing garden...- 9 of 10 seedling made it and got potted outdoors - better in a pot with a fighting chance than on the windowsill waiting for a hole in the ground to be dug
- front flower bed 'washed down' - bark mulch redistributed & chili pepper cat deterant sprinkled - the little terror was glaring at me the whole time - she's far too cute for her own good - was tempted to pet her but that would be sending mixed messages!
- new parasol cover replaced old shredded one in the nick of time - the heavens opened one minute after deed was done!
- 'guilted' OH into getting out the lawnmower - 1/3 done before it poured - 1/3 to be done today or tomorrow - last third can't be seen by the neighbours - so in theory we are half way acceptable today!
- have faced up to the reality that my big pot of violets did not like the heat & will not be reviving no matter how much they get watered - so planning what to replace them with! - maybe some geraniums?

Thanks! I am, actually, its really different from how it was.
RT! You're getting along too - and thats the thing with gardening especially, I think - accepting reality :rotfl: in the form of dead plants or whatever it may be! I admire your courage in not sending mixed messages to a cute moggie2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
After I read that you were deboning the garden, I was confused as you are a vegetarian and probably don't eat bones, therefore don't need to de-bone anything. And, I'd never heard of a garden being de-boned.
Having re-read it properly, despite the giggling, I think I need to go to bed and stop speed reading, I've clearly lost it!
Yay to work and progress and anniversaries coming upTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

I had to read it twice as well PippiBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
