  • Nothing cooked with chicken today as I had scampi as part of a MS earlier and am still stuffed (hubby made himself scrambled egg whilst I was filling in my mystery shop assignments, poor man:rotfl:)

Tomorrow will be chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with jacket spuds - yum!

On my tour of mystery shops today I had to go into Mr T's, they had granary bread reduced to 26p a loaf:money:. Bought two loaves as it still had two days on the date, have made a job lots of sandwiches (partly using yesterdays beef), bagged them individually and put them in the freezer! Wow how organised is that:p I've just got to remember to take them out everyday for work now:o

I've got six sticks of rhubarb...what can I do with it other than make a crumble?? Wondered about just stewing it, then freezing into portions to take to work?

  • Oh dear I have major money news.....

Unless we win the lottery we are NOT going to be mortgage free by the time i'm 40:eek::(
I know you are all going to think i'm bonkers, but we have had the 'car talk' again tonight. Dependant on a test drive I think DH is going to buy a new Kia Sportage. We have searched and searched, there are no 6 month to a year old ones for sale (unless you want a petrol or automatic) so a new one it will have to be. There is a wait time of 4 months for the required model therfore not much hope of getting any sort of discount:eek:. The only bargaining tool will be DHs car in px.

We are going to 'probably' fund it mainly through our offset reserve account, as at present this is will only cost us 1.09%. We do have some money in savings but not enough to pay in full, so until interest rates change this seems the most sensible thing to do.

I have stressed to hubby that all non essential spending (other than the car:rotfl: will have to cease..he seems to be on board).

In other news I spent 30p on a newspaper today:rotfl::rotfl:

  • Hello TPA
    :D

You know what.... I had a big grin on my face when I imagined how pleased your hubby will be with his new car!! I think this is the essence of MF-ness .....not new cars!.... but having more choice and control over how you spend your money and having the options of doing things that make life easier/more fun (eg part time/different work and Kia 4x4's!)
When I get to near MF-ness I would certainly do the same for mrtyo if there was something amazing and fun he wanted that we could get for all our hard work/saving..... do you have a new MF date ? always up for a new challenge/countdown! :p
  • Thank you Youngone, I have to say I still feel a bit sick at the thought of spending all that money, however DH tolde last night he will share the 4x4 with me!!!!!:rotfl:Cheeky bu@@er!

As for a new date, hubby is 40 in September 2014, when we first talked about becoming MF this was the date we had in mind, so this will be my new target (30+k in two years:eek:) I may be setting myself up for another fall, we will see:o

You're getting a new car, what a surprise NOT :rotfl:

I failed on my MF by 40 as well challenge (this will go out the window if me and the BF get a house together) I think it just seems to tight a squeeze unless I can give up my obsession of filling my ISA

So will probably change to MF which would be May 2015 (edited from BF to MF, but he will be 40 then so might just think about a younger model)
    Mortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0
    ISA challenge start 2019 £3000/£1500 (50%)
  • Radish, its a bit rash to change BF isn't it!:rotfl:

Well garage gave us an 'over the phone' valuation of £4,500 for hubbys car..he is not impressed, stamped his feet, swore a little....hmm, may be off! We will see. Might still be MF in 10 months

Spent £6.50 in Waitrose tonight:eek: On tomatoes, chives, garlic and ham:eek::eek:

Congratulation on the new car I just knew you were going to have it. I wouldn't worry you are very close and a few more months wont really matter. Just think of all the savings, no repairs, no MOT cheaper insurance etc. My DH bought a new car (well 3 years old) eventhough he did not need it but he loves it and it gives him so much pleasure to drive I think that makes it worth it.

  • When we took the hit to get DH his new car, I had a similar feeling of dread, but in the end it has been better than paying the garage so much every week for the privilege of making the rubbish car road worthy till the next problem. I think overall, we have made it up already, and so will you.
