No, no danger of failing. Its the whole behaviour management thing. He's not following the behaviour policy but keeps issuing warnings. 15 in one lesson to the same boy!!! They know he's not going to do anything now so they've stopped listening too him.

All the other teachers are trying to offer him different advice and techniques and he plans to use them. But when he gets in the room, he seems to forget everything. I think I'm just waiting for the Eureka moment. He needs to get MEAN! Or at least consistant. :rotfl:

I feel bad for him more than anything, just because I can see him making a rod for his own back. I've got him observing the other student next week (they are both observing each other), to see if there is anything they can learn from each other, and to spot opportunities to give constructive feedback. I'm hoping that might help.

  • I usually provided an opportunity for team teaching even on 2nd practice just to get them brainstorming off each other a bit. All you can do then is keep trying and hope he gets it. Still early days though. Aren't they in till about May/June time?

No, these leave at half term. So four weeks left. They do team teach one class...but the teacher who's class it is really isn't very impressed with what they are doing. It's coursework though - so it's difficult....

Man, I WOULD NOT train again for all the tea in china. It's awful!!

  • I kind of felt like a trainee again when i went back both times after mat leave as i was being supported by being asked to have an A4 lesson plan for every lesson, being watched all the time, and being told how to suck eggs on a regular basis by people who i had trained. Not a good time.

I agree i would not want to train again either. Too many hoops.

OMG...how the hell did they pass that off as support?? That is ridiculous. No wonder you were stressed!!!

I had more help from Grateful at the time who i had just met on these boards and was fantastic support. I think they were looking to make me leave as i was the last teacher from the old department and not as naive and mouldable as the NQTs they got in. Not of course that anyone would admit that. When i went to see occupational health i was saying that i felt completely incompetent and she made out that no-one had said that, but it is the way you are treat really isn't it that makes it clear that is what is being thought. So glad to not be there as it was very toxic for me at the time.

Anyway, behind me now and i am not too bitter. ;)

Have a safe journey to Dhs tonight. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Are you still feeling a bit jet lagged from your hols? You seem to be going flat out again.
  • Hey twinklie
sounds like a relaxing weekend is in order! your lists make me exhausted sometimes! ;)
re: the students- tough if they arent quite *getting it* ... sounds like maybe its nerves when it actually comes to it? or not wanting to enforce boundaries...not sure, but as you say he will have made a rod for his own back in now the kids are unlikely to take notice of any warnings/boundaries...
one of those things I guess thatll get better with practice/doing it-maybe just needs the first time to do it and see that he can! kids will pick up so easily if someone is feeling overwhelmed/out of thier depth ...

agree with you both Id never want to go thru training again (Im not a teacher tho and think Id have no luck trying to control 30 kids!) ...really enjoy work Ive done training students tho...

michelle- your experience of going back to work sounds awful - I can relate a lot to some of those things and its incredibly deskilling to feel you are being "watched" or having to prove yourself and justify what youre doing all the time when youre an experienced professional! sounds like it was a lot about politics...I dont doubt what goes on in organisations when they want rid of someone who doesnt fit into thier maleable molds!

So sorry you went through that Michelle...I can't even imagine it. I have the most amazing department and wouldn't last 5 minutes without the help and support I get from them.

I got to dh safe and sound...will be interesting to see how Belle copes. It's been ages since she's been here.
As for the lists, I always feel like I don't do enough. I still feel like I could do more if I tried harder.

    Hey twinklie,
hope you have a lovely weekend and get lots of relaxation.
I have been enjoying catching up on your diary since 6.30am!

Sorry to talk work, but I might not be able to post for a while, so read this next bit on monday morning only!
I don't have it with me but i made a proforma for my struggling trainees and got them to fill it in whilst discussing it with me, maybe something like it would be of some use? It has stuff like class organisation, starter, introducing learning objectives and other stuff down the side, a column for a lesson that went well, and one that they were not happy with, and I get them to compare the features of the two lessons - an basically talk about how all lessons are different, but there are things that you should and shouldn't do or you'll never control a class / enjoy the job! With one lazy trainee I had to refer back to his list a few times, but with lots of encouragement it seemed to work for me every time.
