Definately agree...one of the things we kind of like about Ballys is that it's a bit more laid back, but I can completely understand that some people would prefer something with a bit more of a Vegas vibe to it.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I take it that means you are now in a wraparound suite if I am reading correctly. You will have to let us know what it is like, I am seriously considering staying there for 3 nights in Aug, but in a terrace studio/one bed premium view.

Yep! It looks amazing. 480 sq ft terrace :rotfl: Will take photos for my trip report :D

What is everones thoughts of staying downtown for a few nights?

We will be there for 14 nights and I fancied the idea of staying in the golden nugget for a change of scenery and also some moneysaving on the weekends! Not really seen much on this thread about the area but the tripadvisor reviews seem very good!

    Thanks

Of the 3 it's the charger for me, it took a while to work out the cruise control.

Downtown is cool, the Golden Nugget is the place to stay down there, no resort fee either. Easy to walk up and down Fremont street, the pool is great with the massive shark tank and a water slide that goes through the middle of it, 24 hr Starbucks for good measure, decent buffet and a seriously good steak house Vic & Anthony's possibly a bit expensive but great and intimate for a special dinner. A short walk to Walgreens for wonderful kitcsh souvenirs especially the dashboard hula hula girls, 5 star tacky. Also now a gold vending machine!

I don't know if you're much of a gambler, if you are then book direct with the hotel and sign up for their players card, use it at every opportunity and make sure you visit the casino hosts office before checking out, just ask too see if they can do anything they can do. I played poker mostly (a bit of a wild room but great) which doesn't earn comps as it has it's own promos, but I played a bit on the machines whilst having a coffee or waiting for a table and got one of my 5 nights comped. they will usually try and give you something maybe your wifi for a night etc.

Never be too shy to ask.

The last time I stayed the pool was a serous blood pressure raiser as there was a fitness instructor convention there, seriously trim women and men I suppose. My other half spent most of her time in the outside Starbucks watching firemen from across the nation competing in a variety of events, something for everyone.

Whilst everyone was supporting their local fire department, those from NYFD seemed to be appreciated and supported by everyone, they all wore a patch with 343 on, the number of firefighters who had perished in 9/11.

Did it last year staying at fitzgeralds and really enjoyed it and as you say a great money saver for the weekend. Just think has a different feel to strip and makes a nice change. Stayed the Friday and sat last year but this year staying down there for four nights! Shows how much we enjoyed it, plus nice and close to outlet centre up there about a five ten min bus ride.
And recommend triple George grill on restaurant.com up there
