3 weeks until my holiday- applied for the ESTA - received 'pending authorisation' for both my mother and myself. Checked an hour later and both were approved.

What's really annoying is I haven't bought my currency yet, and the rates gone down from $1.63 a few weeks ago to $1.54 now (even less for travel rates). Grrrrr. Always the way. It'll shoot back up after I buy the $.

Glad some of you are finding the Cyber Monday deals helpful. I didn't have time to look properly earlier.

Edit - just checked and the rates are lower than when I checked earlier.

Thats really odd, I have just checked the weekend again at Ballys, this morning $220 it is now $250.

So it seems that cyber mondays rates are variable

Harrahs does have valet parking and the self park lifts drop you on the 1st floor down the corridor from Toby Keiths (our 1st floor U.S. 2nd floor) the ground floor (their 1st) is about 70 yds from the main entrance and valet, you cross the road and enter the hotel near reception.

I stayed in the tower nearest Toby's and found getting the lift (from whichever floor of the car park to that level allowed us to be able to bring in shopping etc without having to traipse through the casino or reception. That level also has a small Starbucks that's open in the mornings not so busy as the one on the ground floor, you could almost nip down in your jimjams I suppose?
Oh one more thing pull up when you're gonna check-in and use the valet you will also get a porter, fine if you like that sort of thing but both will expect a tip. It is usual to tip a Dollar when dropping off the motor as well as a tip when picking it up. Some sort of thing that he won't destroy the car when parking it and that he'll put it in the shade. A bit like don't argue with a waiter before he delivers your food.

we don't tip valets at drop off either, just at pickup.

And we always wave off the porters...I prefer to have our bags with us and go straight to the room...on the rare occasion we have left them and called down for them, it's usually fine, but once we waited like 40 minutes...and within 40 minutes we're normally both showered, changed and sat at a slot machine...so since then, we pass on the assistance.

    Cheers dudes, very helpful....

Brilliant report Triker!!! Really enjoyed it - can't believe all the places you managed to get around... we've NEVER done an off-strip casino (though both of us prefer to drink than drive if truth be told, and gambling and drinking come hand in hand wherever possible for us :D)

What did you think of Nelson? Missus loves ghost towns! Anything interesting nearby, or on the way?

ok, this post will probably die on its !!!! BUT... Triker has convinced us we need to get to more off-strip casinos - we've never been to one and likewise, have only spent about an hour downtown (during daytime which doesn't seem the right time to go to be fair!)

with that in mind, if you have a favourite DOWNTOWN casino, and a favourite OFF-STRIP casino, what are they, and why - ie. there's good stuff nearby, or certain stuff in there that you have to see just once, or a buffet you must try etc

things to see and do other than just gambling would be more appealing to be honest :D

Hi, Booked on britishairways.com. The dates are conducive to good rates. Went similar dates in 2010 thursday before superbowl to friday after and flights were sub 400euro flying with Virgin that time.

just doing some hotel stalking and noticed this on TI's website - it may have been mentioned before and apologies if I just missed it.

TI $20 + TAX DAILY RESORT FEE INCLUDES*

Triple/quad occupancy surcharge waived for ages 14 and under

It's not earth shattering, but seems it's their way of not charging extra for kids.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We aren't huge downtown fans...contrary to what others have experienced we normally lose down there...we do like to go down for a few hours one evening now that we've accepted the SDX bus is OK...but don't really have a favorite.

Off-strip we have several we like:

M-Resort - nice and new and has a nice, upscale vibe to it while not feeling snotty...their buffet is excellent as is the little ice cream/gelatto shop at the front. ..and you could check out Silverton and South Point on your way.

Sunset Station - we make a stop here most trips and tie it in with some combination of WalMart, In-and-Out, Best Buy, Galleria Mall as they are all right there...have also been known to stop by Ethel M on the way there as Ethel M is right off Sunset.

Green Valley Ranch - though we always used to go mainly because of the Original Pancake House, may it rest in peace...it's a nice casino though.

Red Rock Station - really nice, great buffet, there's a Best Buy over the road...could tie it up with a visit to Red Rock itself.

We like hitting a lot of off-strip casinos each trip...it's something different though we haven't necessarily had better luck at them really. We have been meaning to check out Palace Station for years and just never have.

    Thats a huge question

Orleans I guess has to be top, partly because we stay there comped every trip, you dont need to gamble much to get 2 comp nights for future trips, I love playing the table games there

Silverton, we like the buffet, fish tank and Bass pro shop

South point for Steak and shake

Main street station with the vegasexperience bogof buffet voucher, great value and of course you can pee on the Berlin Wall

I could go on, in truth I would like to do what Triker has done, as although we have visited lots of off strip casinos/hotels, there are many more that we havent
