Whatever you do, don't be like [STRIKE]us[/STRIKE] people who are a bit daft :D and nearly run out of petrol on the way....as we keep saying, best win of the trip last march, was seeing Searchlight whilst we were going about 15 mph through the desert to save petrol....adrenaline rush like no other.

I had to laugh at this (since I know it all worked out OK)...I cannot imagine what a wreck I would have been. :)

We have been to Laughlin before and took an absolute kicking - but it's been a few years...hoping to turn that around.

I think it may be photome who got a ticket on the way back from Laughlin - so I will have to be mindful of the speeding - so easy to do on those great open stretches.

Vikki - it is a crazy offer - we've scanned the list a couple of times but just can't see a 4th we could reasonably make it to. Hubby thought yesterday that we could go to Horseshoe Hammond in addition to Harrah's Joliet, but they're the same 'destination'. It may turn out that we scrap the plan - just depends if we do stop in Joliet or not. I think we may well beat you to Oatman, just. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Hi everyone,
Treasure Island have a 48 hour sale and are offering a tower suite for 10 nights in November for $1693 Inc tax around £1029 at current rate, does that seem like a good deal to you?
    Thanks.
It's a pretty good rate but bear in mind you'll need to factor in another £140 for resort fees. We managed to get 9 nights in Tower Suite in October for £822 but that was partly due to mistake by the travel agent on original booking.

I've been searching Oatman on each year's thread and can't find anything where someone has actually gone to Oatman - did you guys ever make it?
afraid not - its one of those things that keeps appearing on our 'to do' list that never actually gets done - for us it certainly seems somewhere to stop off at rather than a purposeful journey - we will get to do it one day! :D

    Hi Everyone

In case anyone does a search for the hotels and experiences I've recently had, I'm going to list them separately...I hope this okay?

So the TV.....we are a family of 4 and decided to stay both on and off of the strip. we started off at the TV - a family oriented resort which is a popular timeshare* spot as well as operating as a normal hotel.

We went for the Bora Bora suite - mid-size, one bedroom. It was large and very well equipped with a full kitchen inc. washing machine and tumble dryer!

It also had two 42" tvs. It is about a mile and a half from the strip, so not too far from the action, but far enough away too!

With no casino, this is definitely a family resort. The pools were great even had a sandy beach area and the lazy river superb. Plenty of sunbeds and shady areas too.

Denny's was on site and was cheap and really good for snacks to full on meals. There was a cocktail bar too. It's also 5 mins walk from LV South outlet mall and McD etc.

All in all, a nice start to our trip - felt very safe too.

    * try ebay USA as owners of timeshares were selling weeks here in August for around £350 - an absolute bargain.

    PS For families, I'd rate this above the Cancun Resort where we stayed last visit;

We moved from the Tahiti Village to the Tropicana - we wanted to be on the strip and we chose the south end and it was the right thing for a family I think, as the more north we walked (say beyond Planet Hollywood Hotel), the seedier and more adult it became.

Anyway, we loved the Trop - we went for the Paradise suite; it was huge and we were bang on the strip on the tenth floor. Both sides of the suite faced the strip and at night it was amazing. Two tvs, loads of space a decent bathroom, all good.

The Trop had a much more adult vibe that the TV - obviously, but was still okay for us and the two boys. The pool area was really smart and the Nikki Cafe absolutely terrific - we had a fabulous buffet brunch there - probably the best meal we had - and we had blinkin loads!

We went to see Gladys Knight who is resident here - she was so cool.

The location of the Trop was very good in my opinion. It was within minutes of Excalibur and NYNY, which led us to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Also, next door to MGM Grand and the main strip. Trust me, when it's hot, it's really good to be so close to the action.

All in all, we enjoyed the Trop and would deffo return.

We ate out all the time during our week in LV.

Dennys - we thought this was great - enjoyed some really good breakfasts and cheap meals here.

Nikki Cafe in the Tropicana - we really enjoyed brunch here - really lovely food, very well prepared and presented in a really cool setting - highly recommend.

Pampas - a Brazilian restaurant. We had the rodizio dinner. Overall, the food was good and some cuts of meat superb. The service was slow - don't go here if you are hungry or rush your food, as you'll likely fill up on the salads! For those who haven't experienced a Brazilian rodizio restaurant, it's like a meat buffet with servers that come to your table, one type of meat after another. Expensive and rather too slow for us.

Buffet in the Excalibur hotel - ended up here more by chance to be honest. Not one of the well known or buffets that are normally recommended, but we enjoyed it a lot. The ribs were superb. Pretty drab surroundings. Good price though.

Outback on the strip. Really good experience - loads of food at good prices. The deep fried onion was both enormous and delicious. We were stuffed - didn't even get to desserts! Family oriented chain, but don't be put off plus good central location.

More expensive than I recall from our last visit a few years ago. Still, always great food and a great experience.

LAS VEGAS – August 17, 2011 – The Linq, a $550 million retail, dining, entertainment and hospitality district located at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, will be unlike anything in the famed resort city.

Owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment Corporation, the mid-Strip attraction is designed as a destination in its own right and is being created to revitalize and re-define the center-resort corridor.

“We are enhancing the allure of the resort experience in a coveted location, introducing an exciting new offering not only for guests occupying our own 24,000 Las Vegas hotel rooms, but also for all who live in and visit Las Vegas,” said Gary Loveman, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Caesars Entertainment Corporation. “The Linq is going to be the new address for fun at the center of the Las Vegas Strip.”

Comprised of diverse retail, dining, beverage and entertainment experiences, The Linq will span more than 200,000 square feet of gross leasable area directly facing Caesars Palace.

Its diverse tenant mix is planned to appeal to the region’s growing Gen X and Gen Y clientele – ages 21 to 46 – whose market share is estimated to grow to 52 percent of Las Vegas visitor spending by 2015.

The focal point of the unique urban entertainment district will be a giant observation wheel – The Las Vegas High Roller. The wheel will be the tallest in the world, at 550 feet, with 28 cabins designed as transparent spheres, each of which will accommodate up to 40 people. Each cabin will be available for individual or group experiences.

The Linq will bring upgrades to three, large mid-Strip Caesars Entertainment resorts and O’Sheas casino. On The Linq’s north side, an engaging guest walk path will lead from the Carnaval Court outdoor plaza at Harrah’s Las Vegas resort through the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino and to The Linq. A pedestrian connection also will be built from The Linq into Flamingo Las Vegas on the south. The Linq enhancements will completely transform the facade, porte cochere, casino and hotel reception areas of the Imperial Palace. Improvements to resort guest service areas will be introduced in phases.

Caesars estimates that The Linq will employ about 3,000 construction workers and create 1,500 permanent jobs once it opens.

Caesars has retained Caruso Affiliated, nationally renowned for creating award-winning open-air retail destinations, as the exclusive leasing agent and to provide advisory services on all development related issues for The Linq. Under the leadership of founder and CEO Rick J. Caruso, the company has raised the bar for the retail properties with developments such as The Grove in Los Angeles. Since it opened in 2002, The Grove has become the place to “see and be seen,” attracting more than 18 million visitors each year, and it posts some of the highest retail sales volume in the country. It is a top spot for residents and visitors from across the country and around the world. It also has expanded its prominence as the home for the national entertainment news show “Extra,” broadcasting live daily on NBC.

“Las Vegas is a market we’ve looked at for years and we believe it is ideal for an outdoor destination retail and entertainment property,” said Caruso. “We will bring our signature approach to The Linq, attracting unique and best-in-class retailers and restaurants and helping to create an environment that appeals to ever-changing consumer tastes and elevates the retail and entertainment experience.”

“We are pleased that Rick Caruso, who has studied this market for years, has chosen Caesars Entertainment’s Linq as the project to bring his vision to Las Vegas,” Loveman said.

With financing in place and plans submitted to county regulators, The Linq is moving toward its ground-breaking in the fourth quarter this year. The Linq retail, dining and entertainment experience is scheduled to open in 2013.

It depends what you want. Trop is not well located for Fashion Show Mall, Mirage, Venetian, Wynn, Palazzo, Caesars, Forum Shoppes, TI.

No it isn't, but the poster has a point sometimes missed. It is a great location if you have young ones in tow, being near most of the original Vegas themed hotels, and lots of cool stuff for the kids
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
