Thanks Froggit - will make sure 3G is turned off!

After a bit more searching I happened to find 'navfree' on the app store, which apparently doesn't need to connect while using. Don't know how good it is - will try it out give it a go.
Copilot usa is on the app store for £2.99. that downloads onto the phone so no data transfer needed. For under £3 I would give it a go as Copilot is one of the best and most reliable satnav apps around
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

On Tuesday, after 8.00am in the Orleans if you are over 50 and put your club card in a machine, you can get a bogof buffet voucher and a cinema ticket for $4 each, some other offers and prize draws.

    Cheers. Too helpful!

My wife has just seen the Video of Gilley's at TI and has decided I will be riding the bucking bronco.... Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind seeing her do it either.

Shame - you nearly made my day!
Original question applies - anyone got advice on how to use an Iphone as cheaply as poss in the U.S.? Got ourselves a $12 payg phone for calls - but would still like to use the Iphone on our long road-trip drives between SD, Yosemite, Vegas and Denver.... (not long now til we go now!)

Can I suggest mrsimcard dot com (can't post a link as I am a newbie!!)

I used him last year for an iPhone unlimited data simcard which also included unlimited texts to the UK and unlimited calls within the USA. It was perfect for our road trip which covered SF/Yosemite/Pacific Coast Highway/ LA and Vegas.

The only caveat is that your iPhone must be unlocked for it to work.

$99 gets you unlimited texts/data/Calls in USA to USA. The connection is EDGE not 3G but it is plenty fast enough to pick up emails/ use sat nav/ use google maps/ browse the web. This sim is valid for 30 days so may or may not be too long for what you need.

    Hope this helps.

You can hire a satnav in England which covers the USA for about £35 per month. Plenty of sites doing it.

Or if you have a satnav that takes a memory card - buy the memory card with the US maps - then resell the memory card on ebay...or buy one from ebay to begin with...we did - best £40 we ever spent...and could have sold it back for about the same as we paid if we wanted.

Or buy one that includes US maps - there are deals out there...or buy one in the US and either keep it to use in the UK, or sell it on ebay.

Personally I think renting one is a bit of a throwing money away sort of thing, but that's just me. :)

Of course if you have an iphone and there are apps that serve the purpose, then that's great...some of us continue to resist the lure. :)

Quick question for anyone who goes to Gameworks (have read mixed reviews)

    http://www.gameworks.com/templates/beez/pricing.php

Does this card ($50 best value) work for the "grabber" / claw games? I've read somewhere that they do but can't find it on the site again... We have watched numerous videos of a kid winning loads of soft toys on youtube, from Gameworks

TIA anyone - getting excited now :)

Not sure if they work on the cranes but i think they do as each machine just takes points off of your preloaded card (none of the machines take cash)

Having said that the place is a bit of a dump, most of the machines are old and often OOO.

I could also post a video of using a crane/grabber and winning loads, just like I could post a video of the same machine winning nothing.

Any game machine can be set to give prizes at set intervals, ie very often or very rarely

    PS

todays groupon is an all day pass for $18

P.P.S. Also worth checking tix4tonight as they used to have all day passes available there for 50% off I think.

I second this, we had a nosy in and it was scruffy. Some of the machines can rob you of your money faster than any slot machine on the strip too.
You're probably better off going into Circus Circus and having a go at the Midway arcade and have a potter around the Adventuredome.
Excalibur has a little arcade place too near the box office.
