    Re the WHD situation.
There was an all night event on Friday night till Saturday morning at the speedway called "The Electric Daisy" rave up thingy. The Vegas newsroom said that prices were being hiked up to the hilt by the hotels - $770 for the weekend at Flamingo is one example, which was apparently $200 dearer than the Vientian. Perhaps they turned WHD down because they could make more money booking his room to someone else who had a ticket but was desperate to stay somewhere and was willing to pay big money. I'm not saying that's what happened, but the news reported that the Strip was expecting lots of visitors and some hotels have inflated their prices to try and put some people off staying there.
Still rotten to the core by MB to refuse his booking though, I hope he causes a real stink about it.

    sorry another question.....

Sat nav....we hire a car (7 seater but usually end up with a huge bus like thing!). It bumps the cost up by £100 if we hire one through car company (netflights) so am considering driving to walmart to buy one.

Would I get one for less than £100 (would have thought so) and do I need to be looking for any one in particular? Don't want to spend ages in walmart looking at sat navs!

    Thanks x

If you have an iPhone you can get a cracking satnav app for under £3.00 It doesn't require you to have data transfer, it downloads directly to the phone.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

i mentioned the EDC to the manager at the time and he claimed it had nothing to do with that. Without saying it he pretty much said they could charge more money for those 'overstaying' . The whole thing seemed like a massive cover up. Along with the festival that has just finished today, there is Britney, Rihanna, new kinds + backstreet boys plus UFC all happening in the next 7 days at MB and MGM. We are due to check out on saturday morning and miss the above events (sadly, as Id have loved to go to the UFC).

I have the name of a manager senior to the guy we were talking with so will give her a call at some point before we leave.

They must be having trouble filling a small auditorium with peeps to see him. that is about the 3rd offer on his tickets I have seen. That is about the right price though;)

I saw him advertised at the Mirage. Is it just me, or does anybody else think that the Mirage billboard seems wrong without that big Seigfreid & Roy sign there? I know that it hasn't been there for years, but I always miss it when I walk along the strip.

This is what I'd like to use - but the cost of connecting via 3G makes it too expensive on my Tesco contract....
Any ideas on a way to get round this, and make it cheaper to use while we're over there?

has anyone had any experience of being refused their reservation at check in, and if so how did you deal with it?

We were due to check in to mandalay bay yesterday, got there about 11.15am and when we got to the counter the girl looked at our reservation and said she'd have to get a manager to come talk to us about our booking.

This guy come out and said they were moving us to the MGM Grand as Mandalay Bay was full and they couldnt accept our booking. After about an hours worth of discussion they were not budging and it was the MGM, excalibur or nothing. I tried to find out why they couldnt accept us but the manager seemed shifty and wasnt reallly telling us the truth why they couldnt accept us.

He claimed the issue came to light only at 11pm the night before, told us that lots of guests have decided not to check out and are staying in their rooms and the couldn not force them to leave. I told him I find it hard to believe that in a hotel of 3000+ rooms there wasnt any way they could offer us 6 nights accommodation even if it meant moving out of 1 room to another.
His reply to this was 'this is Vegas, and this is what happens'

He also contradicted himself when I asked about mving to another MGM resort apart from the MGM Grand, and he said they offered that hotel as it is the closest 'like for like' room. According to him the mirage, aria, even the luxor are all fully booked for the next 6 nights, but by coincidence the MGM grand was the only hotel with availability.

So after hitting a brick wall we had no other option but to head over to the MGM Grand and spend our final 6 nights there. To say I wasnt happy is a bit of an understatement.

Something is going on at Mandalay Bay this week and the management were being reluctant to tell us what. I dont believe that suddenly at 11pm on a saturday that a few hundred guests all decided to extend their stay and they couldnt accept us (and a hundred or so more bookings).

Due to the way we were treated I have now decided to cancel our booking at Mix on thursday and eat elsewhere, and due to that I have a $50 restaurant.com voucher going spare to whoever wants it.

Has this happened to anyone else out in here and if so how did you deal with it? We eventually got him to cover 3 nights room costs instead of 1 but it isnt really about the money. we chose Mandalay Bay for a reason and didnt expect to be treated like complete mugs by the management there and be vobbed off with their crap excuses for not having a room available for us

How were you compensated for the move? Full refund for Mandalay Bay and free room at MGM or something else?
    It's someone else's fault.
