AprilThanks for that, I was going to get a calling card. Was just wondering about arguing the fees with the hotel as there is no price list anywhere.
Do I complain today or at checkout?! And is there anything my Credit Card company will do if I dispute it with them?0 -
what hotel? isnt there a folder near the phone with hotel details including phone in it?
argue today if youre going to. do it nicely and say there was no tarrif and you might get it waived.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

Do they not have an information book in the room with all kinds of detail on various things? Every hotel I have stayed at in Vegas has at least basic phone charges in there, or says something about calling the front desk to enquire about rates.
If you are going to dispute it, I would do it ASAP, not wait until check-out.
Sorry, just saw 7 minutes...that seems a bit bizarre to me...we called Abbey once from a hotel room in Vegas and it was expensive, but not that expensive.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
AugustYou can see what Luci means looking here:
http://www.vegascasinoinfo.com/images/propmaps/ballymap.pdf
The pool is on the Bally's Avenue Shops level...you can see the escalator marked 'to casino' and that is the escalator near The Sidewalk Cafe and Indigo Lounge...you can take the lift to that level from the North Tower as well...from the South Tower as far as I know you have to walk through through the whole casino. You can also see the sportsbook and to the left the exit to Flamingo.
Edited to add: about the pool, we like it...but when we go to the pool we like to swim and since it's one of the only pools in Vegas with a proper deep end, we like it...also handy that you can keep track of time (if you want to) by counting monorail trains going by.
Again, thank you very helpful.
Really looking forward to a bit of sunshine, shopping, eating, drinking and gambling. I particularly liked your use of crazy money on WOF might try it see if pays off for us!
TR was very good reading, I've not done one before but may attempt it as I enjoy reading others0 -
OctoberHi All,
Im in vegas atm, and its great. Only problem is I needed to call Halifax so used the hotel phone.
I assumed it would be $0.50 - $1 per min, as it was in our hotel in NYC. But looked later on at the room tarriff and it cost me about $200!!!!
I had to call twice as the first disconnected, total of about 7 mins on the phone I would say.
Is there anything I could do about these ridiculous prices? The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
SeptemberWell I have finally been drawn from lurkerdom on this site to post to this thread! We went to Vegas at the beginning of July last year for a week (stayed at the MGM) and came away not having really enjoyed it (but with absolutely banging tans which we loved!). We definitely hadnt done enough research, I so wish I had been bright enough to find the 2010 thread beforehand.
Before I wade in with some questions and requests for help can I just say thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, all the info is just so useful and invaluable, especially for a first timer to Vegas, I think we were just a bit overwhelmed by it all when we went and am planning a completely different sort of trip for this year!
So, we are looking to go in September this year, from Manchester for 14 nights, any dates (cheapest possible) but would like to be there over the 18th if poss as its a special bday for me! Not bothered about doing an indirect flight (but no more than 1 stop) and would LOVE direct if possible. Last time we only did vegas, new york (with continental) on the way home as we had a week in new york for a wedding, which was the main reason we were in the states, and we were destroyed after the flight on the way there (5hr turnaround at newark). Am put off at the moment that all the indirect flights seem to add up to approx 20/25 hrs travelling which would take the shine off the holiday I think. Has anyone any experience of doing an indirect flight there and a direct one back or is it better to suck it up and pay the extra to go direct all the way? At the moment, I can get direct flights with Virgin for £852 each (obscene) but am erring towards it maybe being worth it because it halves the travelling time. Am I right in thinking that the only other direct flights from Manc are with Thomas Cook (or one of those crew)? Am also debating if it might be worth getting the train down to London and going direct from there? (should be able to get the train tickets for a song booking this far in advance but concerned about introducing another element of travel) Or maybe booking a sleazyjet flight from Liverpool down to London and doing it like that?
And onto hotels! I have kind of set my heart on the mgm signature, dont know why and am happy to be swayed! The pool area is really important to us as we will be mainly sunbathing during the day and going out in the evenings. I really loved all the options (and lack of shade) at the mgm pool area. Not many people mention the pools on this thread (different strokes and all that I know) but would be interested in any feedback pleaseAm definitely looking for some kind of luxury, not keen on the whole circus circus imperial palace type options
Finally, budget - At the moment, everything I am looking at is coming in at around the £1200 - £1400 mark pp (theres 2 of us) In an ideal world I would like to get it down to the £1k each mark (just under I would love) or £1200 each with a direct flight. Am I being overly optimistic?? Am happy to search like crazy for a good deal but im not sure I have the balls to wait until last minute in case we dont get to go!
Any help or thoughts gratefully appreciated, apologies for a mammoth first post, I have waffled on a bit there sorry!0 -

Ha, you might struggle for advice on here as most blokes who post regularly have the OH looking over their shoulders.
All i can say is don't take a cabbies advice, they work on a pay off from the clubs.
I know someone or several who have been to Treasures and had a great night, with a stag do you can ring and book the party and they will come and pick you up in a limo, they will give a price for the evening which includes a certain amount of drinks and you will need to budget for dances, private dances and other tips and any booze you might need over and above the offer. Without going overboard you should budget (without going mad) perhaps $400, to enjoy a reasonable night. It is easy to get carried away and spend $1k.
Don't forget 'no touchy touchy'0 -
