Thanks for these Luci. Deals are certainly thinner on the ground this year!

Does anyone know the script with or best strategies for taking an iphone abroad? I've heard about massive roaming charges being applied when the phone hasn't even been used which I'm keen to avoid. We'll get wifi in our room though so I thought it might be as well to have the phones with us.
I manage our fleet of company iphones and Blackberries. In terms of raw volume, an iphone user will average ten times as much data as a BB user.....it and its apps are much chattier eg weather updates every 5 minutes. A three day foreign trip will often rack up £100 or so in data roaming charges. Also, many networks will restrict your bandwidth after reaching a certain limit.

    Suggest this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1807 and
"On the iPhone main screen, go to Settings, General, Network, Data Roaming and slide this to “Off”. Do the same for “Enable Cellular Data” in the Network section (valid on the iOS 4 upgrade)."

and use the hotel wifi when back there to pick up emails etc. NOTE some hotels block Skype/MSN/VOIP type traffic.

    Hi All

Am a newbie to "Vegas". There is a lot of great info on here, thanks to everyone who has contributed :T:T. Long story short, my sister informed us in August that they were getting married in Vegas in April and would we like to go Me, OH & 2 x kids, we jumped at the chance (she paid flights & room) but our passports had been stolen in 2007 and we never replaced them as (long story) after many many arguments, insurance would not pay out. As it was such short notice she gave us and with Christmas coming up, we only just scraped together the money for the passports (£253.00) and sent them away on 26th February, we could not apply in person or fast track as they are replacing lost/stolen passports.

The travel agent is now saying to her they cannot issue the tickets without our passport numbers and she is naturally getting totally stressed about it, has anyone else had this problem, I know they are stricter over there but I have never been asked for my passport number before to allow them to issue tickets, even when travelling to Canada??? I am hoping the passports will be with us by next week at the latest

I wonder if you could give them some random numbers and then update the booking when they come through.

I only ever book online now, and Ive lot track of what info they need and when....keeps on changing.....eg passport, advance travel thingy, esta etc.....try it out on Virgin and see if you can book aticket without a passport.

I can only assume they want to do all the 'Advanced Passenger Information' straight away, as usually they only need Full Name + DOB (IIRC) for you to purchase your tickets

    More info on API here:

One thing to mention though is that if you don't have a passport, then I assume you won't have an ESTA, so don't forget to sort that out either!!

    Thanks Daz and Froggit,

I'll have a wee look at the link and ensure that we both turn the roaming off on our phones. I'll make today's job getting to grips with Skype.

    Cheers,

good point about random numbers, as i booked my dads virgin flight for june, and entered the wrong info on the flight page, it was only last week when i was bored and looking through our flights (VA and AA) that i realised i made the mistake, so just changed it and thats it... i guess those details arn't looked at properly until a couple of weeks before u fly ?

But also, in terms of tickets, do they even get produced anymore? thought it was all electronic ?

In 2009 (well 2008) when we booked our flights to vegas for our wedding on our virgin online account it kindly gives you the number of days until you fly. I think the day I booked the flights it was something like 331 days to go!!

now that was a long wait.

    I know the feeling Daz....

Logged into chek our Virgin booking to be presented with:
231 days, 20 hrs, 15 mins until your next flight with us...

My mate who is coming with us to Vegas tomorrow has just had a call from the travel agents he got his pre paid Mastercard from saying to return it and they will give him a refund. Apparently there is a major fraud scam going on in Vegas and they are not being allowed to be used??

Has anyone heard anything about this? I have a Caxton that I was going to load up before going but dont want to know if I wont be able to use it??
