We are flying BA to las vegas from heathrow on a boing 777 where do you advise we try to sit and would you pay in advance or wait till 24 hours before flight to choose seats thanks

Check www.seatguru.com it will give you details on each plane on each route.

Depending on how much it is I'd be tempted to pay to lock up good seats.

Try sitting either side of the aisle, it makes a lot more difference and you can still talk to each other. Nearly 5 hours in the middle seat of 3 is far too cramped.

Yes, I agree...as I'm normally the one in the middle.. :) May see about trying to convince my window-seat loving hubby to consider the aisle/aisle seating next time.

Me and the missus enjoy a drink on the way over, she would be mortified to think people thought she was a undesirable and stunk like a brewery

I personelly would rather sit near people who were enjoying themselves,on there way on holiday,to a party destination, then next to someone who is a miserable git

I always love it when 'prefers to experience 10 hours in a metal tube, at 30,000 feet, with hundreds of strangers, in a reasonable amount peace' = 'miserable git'. :)

Tell you what YOU sit next to the fifty strong stag group-who Virgin didn't have the wit to seat together but spread throughout the plane . Most were legless before boarding and spent the next 5 hours (til Virgin "ran out") shouting at their mates in other parts of the plane or wobbling down the aisles to visit (grabbing the backs of other passenger's seats as they went of course and groping the odd FA too))-swearing like troopers (made MY hair curl and I used to work for Wetherspoons so I'm hardly a shrinking violet) but I have an objection to sharing a narrow metal tube at 35,000 feet with morons whose every other word begins with an F or a C when there are young children in earshot. Enjoy your flight !!!!

(That isn't an exageration that is exactly what I observed on a flight three years ago)

No-one said people shouldn't drink -but binge drinkers as well as been a pain in the butt are a liability if there was an emergency. I've flown all over the world with work (used to work in the travel business) as well as having an addiction to multiple long haul holidays and had some pretty out there flights flying in storms etc but that was honestly the ONLY time I've felt truely unsafe on a plane as if anything had kicked off there would have been !!!!!! all the crew could have done to contain it.

Im not fussy at all and have flown on some rickety old shacks in India - and thought everyone was over exaggerating about the Virgin flight.

It was a nightmare! Only had it from Vegas to gatwick but man alive it was awful. I hate sitting in a 3, but its worse when its with a face ache on the end who sleept the whole way,and got really arsey the ONE time i went to the toilet.... never again!

Has anyone flown the US Airways Man-LAS via Philly? Thats my next flight

    We like this route..
and don't forget that while soft drinks/tea/coffee are free, you have to pay for everything else on the internal leg both ways - we usually buy sandwiches at the airport to take on board as they regularly run out, and they are cash free - you have to use a card to pay if you buy anything onboard).

Many thanks for replies guys, did not know about having to use card on AA flight! We fly a lot around Europe, but this will be first long haul holiday, so I apoligize for silly questions..Do we get meal on way from Chicago to London or should we get sandwiches?
Have only 3.5 months to go now:jWe actualy fly BA direct to Los Angeles first, then return home from Vegas via Chicago.
Flights are booked and starting to look for hotels.
    Best wins ever:

    2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand

My worst plane nightmare...if I feel I can't get up when I need to get up, I will have to get up all the time. :)

Luckily, anytime I've not been on the aisle the person blocking my way has always been perfectly agreeable.
