Thanks for all the replies. Just booked the Mirage for a week so hope I've gone for the best option. Chose it in the end based on location really (and pics of the pool!). This will probably sound like a stupid question to all those regular vegas goers but what exactly is a resort fee? do you pay this everyday?

like i said as long as you don't mind lack of WOW factor in the rooms ,there is little else to fault at the Mirage IMO .

Recommend Carneigies for breakfast one day . be hungary if you want to finish :D

Resort fee is payable up front for each day of your stay . here is a old thread from another board about what you get for it

Start dishing out the deals and many more here will recommend them!

As others have said, there are far too many "undesirables" on the Virgin flights to Vegas. Easy to spot/smell, harder to avoid.

When we stayed last April at the Mirage for 7 nights we had the resort fee taken off our bill at the end because of the gambling we had done. It wasn't huge, maybe $1000. It is definitely worth asking the slot host a day or so before you check out. The pool is fantastic, with a great frozen yogurt place next door. You will love it, and if its your first time to Vegas this is the perfect location, 10 mins to Fashion Show Mall/Wynn Hotel next door to Caesars shopping mall, just brilliant. Have a great time!

Hi all- we fly out next month with delta. I have tried confirming seats on the way out, but it wont let me even though it will let me on the way back. Ive contacted them and they have said i should be able to do it online- so i dont understand why it wont save my seat selection?... anyway this will be my first long haul flight and we would like two seats together- so i was wondering for those of you who normaly check in online the night before- how it works. Sorry if i sound a bit daft lol but i just want to make sure we have decent seats- so i guess we pick seats and print boarding pass out then just check luggage in at airport? Otherwise it means getting to airport extra early and hanging aroung. Any advise greatfully received. thanks

If you change planes but the flight numbers are the same you cannot pick your seats online. We had that for the last 2 years flying with Delta from MAN-ATL and then ATL-LAS. Both flights were DL0064 (or DL0065?) and I had to call their customer services to get them to select the seats for me.

HI guys, we are flying with AA from Vegas via Chicago..Hope it's not too bad choice?

It's fine, done that route a few times with AA and Chicago is an easy connection. Last 2 times flight from Uk to Chicago wasn't full so plenty of empty seats to stretch out on.

We like this route...we especially like that we can have lunch or dinner at Chilli's between flights (I looooove Chili's and am paranoid about connection times so we always have time). :) We also love AA - having previously been direct-only, Virgin folks not interested in the idea of a connection, we now get it. I think that AA cabin crew are brilliant - much more mature than many (and certainly than Virgin, as duchy has said)...much more efficient and much nicer, in my experience. ORD is a nice airport, though the duty free pales in comparison to what you will find in the UK...though maybe slightly better than at LAS.

The only downside I've found to the ORD connection is on the way out, if there are 2 of you and you've been in one of the pairs of seats on the side, the ORD to LAS connection seems really cramped in comparison (and don't forget that while soft drinks/tea/coffee are free, you have to pay for everything else on the internal leg both ways - we usually buy sandwiches at the airport to take on board as they regularly run out, and they are cash free - you have to use a card to pay if you buy anything onboard).
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Mirage is good for a first visit. I've stayed there about 5 times and the location is great, rooms are nice and although the bathroom is small who spends their holiday in Vegas in the bathroom. I've also stayed at the Encore, Palazzo and Mandarin and although its not in the same class it is of similar standard to any decent big chain hotel in major cities. After staying at New York New York last week on a comp offer I'm never going to look down on the Mirage again as I found that grotty and dated.

Try sitting either side of the aisle, it makes a lot more difference and you can still talk to each other. Nearly 5 hours in the middle seat of 3 is far too cramped.

The resort fee will be added to your bill on check out and it is payable for each day. At the Mirage it covers wifi, a bottle of water and a USA Today every day from the shop at the bottom of the lifts. Most people don't agree with them but if you need wifi its not too bad value (we stayed at the Mandarin last week which has no resort fee and paid $18 a day for internet as we couldn't be without it despite it being free in the Cosmopolitan 5 minutes away!).

Don't forget there is tax on the resort fee too!
