AugustStarting to plan our trip in Sept, flight is from Gatwick, staying at the MGM, there's 8 of us going so we thought of going up the night before and staying the night in a Gatwick hotel - can anyone recommend a decent hotel, with somewhere for a meal, also do they have transport to get you to your terminal ?(unsure which terminal we're going from). Complete novice, any help much appreciated. Thanks
we stayed in travellodge in crawley 19 pound split 3 ways. Went into crawley town for dinner and a drink which turned into getting back to hotel at 3am and having to be up at 7. Not sure about the transport to airport as we drove but only fifteen minutes awayHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
MarchSounds good, our flight is 11.00 in the morning, I'm a very nervy flyer and the less stress the better . We're flying with Virgin so is that South terminal?
Thanks to everyone for the replys.
It is the south terminal...we do think it's a much nicer way to start the holiday. It is expensive though...I would consider the Yotel one time I think - just to try it out.
I am fine with flying, but a basket case in terms of worrying about traffic/trains, etc. causing us to miss our flight...so this is perfect for us. It's been a few years since we have flown with Virgin to Vegas, when we've flown AA from LHR we've stayed at nearby hotels...but I still get stressed about the shuttle from the hotel to the airport...so looking forward to being able to walk to security from our hotel.
Oh, and I agree about upgrading if you do stay at the Hilton...we paid for it in advance (I think it was £50 for the room) but you can put in for an upgrade if they have availability when you check in - I think it's £29 then?) but access to the lounge in the evening (drinks and nibbles) and breakfast in the lounge the morning of the flight...to us it beats breakfast in the terminal and again, a more gentle start to the holiday.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
OK I have already posted a thread in this board but that's the second half of the holiday.
The first part is Las Vegas. Planning on going from Monday 6th June -> Friday 10th June. There's 4 of us (adults).
I am planning. I have looked at Expedia for a basic guide and cheap and on the strip, Excalibar looked ok. However reading the first thread says its in the "bad hotels" list.
It was going to cost £183 for 2 rooms (2 people in each).
We are planning on relaxing by the pool, wandering around the local area and gambling.
would it be worthwhile paying double to go somewhere like the MGM (£305) given we are there for 4 nights and planning on mainly relaxing, wandering and gambling?
(just to say we are all 22 and going to graduate this year so we aren't wanting to spend more than we have to given we are currently still students)

MayI wouldn't pick MGM personally but looking at your per person per night rate -the answer is probably yes -unless you are on a very tight budget.
Really though you are asking us if it would be worth it-to you-without giving us any info to go on . Ignoring that tho.....
MGM is less central than Excalibar but is huge so lots of eating places and things going on . If a really central location is important to you -it's something to consider.
Personally if I was on a really tight budget but wanted to experience mid-Strip I'd either tolerate the tired rooms at Imperial Palace as I'd only be sleeping there or stay at the Orleans which would give me a decent and huge room, nice pool, better value for food and a free shuttle dropping me off in the heart of the Strip.
Really though it's up to what your priorities are -personally Excaliber is a bit too child attractive to me so I wouldn't stay there though.
However you ask ten different people on here you'll get ten different suggestionsI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

MayJust seen thisAmusement Park Proposed: Plans for a new amusement park on the Strip have been filed with county officials. The facility would include up to eight rides, including a 500-foot Ferris wheel, along with a convention center, and a restaurant, retail, and office complex. The proposed location is a 9.6-acre site across from Mandalay Bay.0

you could upgrade your room in the excalibur? what about the flamingo, good location, cheaply priced for that area. has a great pool aswell.
the tropicana could work also, not far from MGM, newly renovated rooms and good value with some $5 tables.0 -
